I had the GSX Mini for several months and ,while I had no complaints, I found it somewhat underwhelming. I now have a TT2 and find it a great pairing with the Empy's as well as VO. Pendant arriving today for a tube option. Currently using a LP.

What DAC did you pair with the Mini?

I was using the DAC section (Sabre ES9028) of an Oppo HA2-SE

The mini and TT2 was a good match when I had it.

I decided to try pairing Empyrean w/ my Fiio Q5s (iPhone > Apple Music > AAC Bluetooth > Q5s > 4.4mm > Empyrean) on High Gain and it sounds pretty damn good. It’ll work nicely inn a pinch if I decide to hang out somewhere else in the house.

What about the Empyrean with a PrimaLuna? (no one asks?)
They are amazing! I personally didn't expect much of a jump from my mj2 and 1960 siemens tubes.. but there it was. The PL almost makes me love these headphones.

That said, do stick with the EL34 tubes (which are the stock) - i just put some KT150 tubes in, holy cow do they sound amazing! - but, those tubes are pushing really close to bass becoming boomy with the Meze (not my other headsets or speakers.) So a warning if you plan on getting a PL, using the empyrean and want to use KT150s. It is right there at the line. But, one could counter act it with some 12UA7s in the gain tubes. Maybe Not the Brimar CV4003 (which i'm using and LOVE... but with the Utopia.)

I’ve stuck the aeon flow eqing pads on the screen of my kann cube and that has helped tame the brightness.

Out goes the SMSL-SP 200 and in goes the Archel 2.5pro. There is something to be said for a low noise non THX based amp. The low end is noticably different, I would say tighter. Very nice with the Empyreans.
