I saw a video review in youtube and the guy says that RME was warm, which is not true, then he noted that was warmer than the Topping, so to me Topping is in the bright side, I consider RME neutral.
I would not suggest anyone use the amp portion of the RME Adi (non-pro), it doesn't bring out the potential in any high end headphone. It should only be used with IEM's or as a DAC along side of a dedicated amp.

I have to disagree with you, my RME AIO is able to power my Sennheiser HD650 awesome. I compared with a Sound Blaster AE-9 (with sparkos op amps) and also with a Burson Funk.
All of them have a very similar sound signature, the 3 have more than enough power for the HD650.

The only phone amps I have are the RME and a THX 789. Running the Elite direct from the RME currently. Do you recommend running it from there to the THX?

Honestly the Empyrean at the end of the day was no bueno for 3K. This is because they pulled the Elite out. The Elite is the true flag ship to share with the others. Meze should take the Empyrean and downsize it and then drop the cost. In my house the Elite and 1266 TC stay in their special corner and go back in their respective cases when not in use..
For you people that have a overly bright amp you can get the a tube device designed by the great Jim Fosgate(old school Rockford Fosgate before being sold to money makers). Don' remember the name of the brand or product but it will had tube sound warmth to your Topping amp. That's not the only magic device out there. There's devices made to fix to produce sound the way are ears actually like it. I owned said device and someone stole it.

Well if the Empy is no good at 3k does it mean Elite is no good at 4k and should be at 3k with Empy around 2k?
It obv depends on how much better Elite is but Empy is no slouch at all.
I have a VC (retails at 2.5k I think) and it wasn't obvious at all that it was better than Empy. The emotion and immersive experience Empyrean gave me was very special and I miss it now that it's gone.
I know, is mid fi but is harder to drive than many hi fi headphones (Elite, Empyrean) so my point was to mention that those amps I mention are more than enough for any Meze headphones.

You can not compare a dynamic to a planar in that regard. The LCD-MX4 has the same sensitivity as the HD650, but sounds dull and hollow on the RME compared to a more powerful amp. The Elite will likely behave in a similar way.

This is the headphone they should have released. The Empyrean is one of most popular but goes on the used market a bunch and gets a lot of heat by not performing at the price. I went through denial a few times with Empyrean. I liked many aspects about the Empyrean but the Elite just crush's it. Also realize having had the Empyrean but now the Elite is going to make Empyrean less attractive. Now I know Meze can pull the guns out to go against the big dogs.

Agreed, I cannot compare a dynamic to a planar but for example the HD650 needs 7 volts and the LCDMX4 needs 10 volts, in other words is less efficient than the HD 650.
The Soundblaster AE 9 has 5 volts and to me is more than enough for the HD 650.
Just because you said it sounds "dull" doesn't means it really sounds "dull" for example, using another amp for the HD 650, The Marantz NR1504, to me, that amp sounds too bassy for my taste.

The RME amp does not sound dull, but it does make the MX4 sound dull and less dynamic compared to a beefier amp. The RME amp is perfectly fine for the Focal Clear or Elegia.
