MEZE AUDIO ELITE - The New Isodynamic Hybrid Array Headphone - official thread

I have the Clear MG side by side with this and my opinion is exactly the opposite.
The bass is at least equally extended and tons better in quality than the Mg.
And the biggest difference is that the Clear sound like , well a headphone and the Elite like an immersive speaker setup.

Maybe there's some synergy issues or your unit is faulty? Pretty sure the OG Empyrean was significantly better than the Focal Clear OG in both bass and treble region. The Focal had a slight metallic tone to its treble. I haven't heard he1000se but even compared to the Susvara, the Empyrean's subbass is huge, so is the bass slam. There's no way Meze would release such an inferior model to something like Focal Clear OG/MG.
I still haven't sold my Clear and the Arya. But I hardly touch them. Empyrean sounds so much fuller overall and the bass slam is totally non existent on the Hifiman Arya.
That's the thing. Elites bass is not Empyrean bass. It's completely different.

Well then, it seems like a little more than a small issue.
Yeah... once it's in my mind that I'm disappointed. It will be hard to shake that off. I really wanted to love these.

I second this. Something is puzzling here.

I am just puzzled by the conflicting reports on bass. Empyrean has great bass and it's collectively agreed upon, Focal Clear has great bass and it's generally agreed upon. What's going on here? Unit variance?

Anyone else with OG Empy or Clear and Elite on here? Could you give us some impressions on bass?

Maybe Peter has a faulty unit?

During my brief time at the meet with Empyreans, we have used this track to test dynamic range, bass and low distortion (claimed by Meze) and it sounded great. However, I felt that volume needed to be cranked up quite a bit to get desirable dynamic swings and low end.
Just crank it up

I don't know man. I'm definitely not trying to cause a stir. I also believe the MG is a lot easier to drive. I only used low output on the dx300. I have to use high output for the Elite.

When subbass is supposed to hit and you feel it deep, you instead get a sound of subbass but no deep rumble. Like you can hear the roll off.

Thank you. Exactly what I was asking for.

You're fine. At the end of the day everyone has a different perception and a different sound chain. A faulty unit is also definitely a possibility despite (I am sure) a tight QC.

I am not saying the Clear OG had poor bass. It definitely has better bass slam than the Arya (Though I prefer Arya to clear overall). But after getting the Empyrean OG with the Alcantara pad, the bass slam and extension were noticeably better. Btw I don't like how Empyrean sounds with the learher pad. Sounds too sharp sometimes with a bit closed off/congested sound stage. Moreover, on every single source from a cheap BTR5 to a mid tier dap like Shanling M6 pro to topping dx7 pro, the empyrean sounded very good (and obviously scaled). But it sounds the best with IFI idsd Signature. Only time I went MEH when I paired the empyrean with Topping A90 and applied medium gain. The bass weight and slam seemed missing. Weird thing is the same Amp has amazing reviews for the price and can drive my arya and susvara nicely (not perfect but not like MEH with the empyrean). So, I still believe there is some pairing issue with the ELITE here.

Meze usually has great QC, but the differences in the report of Bass Performance is puzzling.

It really Ranges from "huge roll off" to "strong above neutral Bass"

“ Impedance - 32 Ω
Nominal SPL - 101 dB (1 mW / 1 kHz)”
They look efficient on paper but I would try it with at least couple watts+ and see if that helps.
Edit
At 1 KHz… which sounds like high fq coil of that Isodynamic Hybrid Array is responsible for that fq range. Bass coil/module could be another story.
I’m just speculating. Honestly, I don’t know Jack on how these arrays actually work. Lol

I heard it on a head space amp. Which can drive a Susvara without sweat. And it was the same bass on there. Screenshot_20210908-155124_Chrome.jpg

Well, there you have it. It’s certainly not a power issue.

How is it in quantity compared to the Clear?
image.jpg

Quantity seems the same to me as is dynamics and hitting.
Let's talk quality.
In easy contemporary stuff like
https://open.qobuz.com/track/77469843
Or
https://open.qobuz.com/track/58017746
You don't really pay attention and notice.
But when we get serious
https://open.qobuz.com/track/99457276
https://open.qobuz.com/track/6984565
https://open.qobuz.com/track/2367658
https://open.qobuz.com/track/48480236
Then you realize that the Clear compared sounds plastic and fake no timbre quality.
You can't hear the sustain of the chords, the plucked string decay, the harmonics, the overtones of the chord, the timpani strokes, you can't tell what kind of hummer or technique is used by the instrumentalists.
So I guess it depends on how trained are the listener ears and what kind of music is listening.
The Elite is not your edm partner.
