Im running 2100mw and they can take it if your ears can lol.

Fiio K9 Pro is such a great match for them.

After reading so much about these headphones, I can't help but wonder if a bit of bass boost wouldn't make these even sweeter.

IME, almost every headphone can benefit from some slight bass boost from my iFi. :L3000:

Thanks for your answer but my question does not have to do with volume levels. It has to do with sound quality, in the sense that a more powerful headphone amplifier can make the 109 Pro sound better. Can it make them sound better?

Looking forward to your impressions - preferably after 100 hours of burn-in.
I have been listening to my 109s out of the FiiO M11 Pro (about 550 mWatts on balanced 4.4mm).

Great sound quality. I do not perceive a need for any more power. Happy :)

Agreed. I listen louder than average for sure and for the 109, My FiiO M11 Plus is plenty enough from his 4.4 output. Volume between 90-100 on 120 on High gain.

I had the Focal Utopia on pretty decent and powerful desktop system (Bryston dac and Audio gd HE-9 headamp) and also on a powerful DAP, the iBasso DX300MAX and I never ever felt that I settled for less with the portable setup. Fullness of sound and headroom with each setup was plenty. Same thing with the 109 and M11 Plus.

That’s the beauty with easy to drive headphones. A feature really important when I had to choose headphones. I just bought a pair of Denon AH-D9200 yesterday because I need closed-back. First thing I looked was it’s sensitivity. I also intend to use them with the FiiO M11 Plus.

Yes, I give it a bass shelf of 2dB at 105hz. Perfect.

So you're listening at 145dB?

More than likely your K9 is actually outputting 1-5mw at listening volumes with your 109 pro. The amp will only output what the headphones are asking for, it is not outputting 2100mw into 40Ohm headphones at normal listening levels.

The 109 Pro only need 7mw to get to 120dB (the level of a jet plane taking off...)

Would like to maybe have an open back headphone. I now have denon ah d9200, px8 and momentum 4. Headphones i have liked is dt1770 pro, denon ah d9200, 7200, audeze sine, audeze lcd 2c, amiron home, px8, momentum 4. Headphones i didnt like is hd800, focal elear, celestee, sony xm5.

I also have the mtw3 wich i really like. And i did like beyerdynamic xelento and shure se846. I have the ie600 for sale. They are good, but maybe a little dry sounding.

If i buy an open back, i want it to be musical and fun.

Anyone have a good way to get in touch with Meze? The stitching on my headband has started to separate and I am trying to get in touch with them. I have sent a few messages through their system and gotten crickets in return. This is frustrating given that these are not cheap headphones.

Did you purchase them direct or through a dealer, if you bought through a dealer it's best to contact them

Hell no, that'd be deafening lol. It does mean I can listen to high energy, high bass EDM or House at considerably better volume than the 450mw would provide. I usually listen at max volume on mid gain, which is probably about 75-80% of high gains max (2100mw).

It's about having headroom. 2100mw is more than needed, but, imo even 1w isnt enough for some music.

Honestly I'd love you to actually measure how much your amp is putting out at the volumes you say.

As I said, 2100mW = 145dB out of the 109 Pro, so yeah, I'm calling you out on this.

Have you tried them out of an amp that outputs 450mW and found them to not get loud enough, as you have got some serious hearing loss if so.

yes, of course ive tried other amps. .5w is trash unless you only listen to low energy music.
On low gain it's 1w and max volume low gain isnt enough. Period, point blank. Mid gain i often inch my way to max volume during a session and have to switch to high gain.

Why you keep saying 145dB is beyond me, as I clearly said I can't listen at max volume in high gain. I CAN however, and every much ALWAYS use >1w.

Not trying to make anyone hate their gear or anything like that- to each their own. But if I only had 450mw I'd be at max volume all the time. That's clearly short of what the ideal situation would be.

I use Lotoo Paw Gold Touch and Sony NW-WM1Z. The headphones sound excellent balanced. Fifty to 55 on LPGT is the highest I go.
