Meze 99 Classics Discussion + Impressions Thread

Slipped an OFC balanced cable onto the Meze 99 Noir. I’m driving them out of my HiBy R6 2020 and I do think they sound a little more controlled in the low end. The overall sound signature is very lush. I was expecting more of a 7hz Legato level of bass elevation but that isn’t what these are about. They’re more balanced than that. The bass is indeed elevated but not nearly to the point of distraction. They’re well over on the warm and rich side of reference but don’t even come close to tilting into Beats territory.

These have been the best $200 I’ve dropped in some time. They’re on sale at Drop right now for $179. Scorching deal if you like thick sounding closed backs that actually have stage and pretty accurate imaging and tons of design style.

Hi.

Is the 99 classics, still worth it in 2024?

I now have the audeze Maxwell, Sony ult wear ( for BASS ), Meze 109 pro and Philips fidelio x2. But would be great with an closed back headphone too wired. Not always the Bluetooth ones workes flawless or the battery dries out.

But i dont want to pay to much. The 99s are on sale now.

The sound i like is when its detailed, crisped, engaging/musical and fun. Also when its not to much in your head. A little open sounding is appreciated. I also listen to all kind of music.Edm, pop, rock, metal, classical..... From vangelis to Dimmu Borgir 🤪

Bit of a long shot - does anyone have a pair of fresh white 99 genuine Meze pads they aren't using? I just emailed Meze and they're all out.

I'd rather keep my silver/maple 99's all white if possible. Happy to pay for shipping etc.

It's funny, but the Noir has more presence to me. I own both. I originally had the 99, but thought I'd upgrade to the 109. So I returned the 99 for the 109. Then I missed the sound and comfort of the 99 so I managed to get a Noir on Ebay. Couldn't be without the 99/Noir.

Anyone have a fix/solution for the creaking of the headband as it self-adjusts when you move around while wearing the 99's? Unfortunately, it can take you out of the "zone" while you're enjoying music.

Never experienced this. It self adjusts and stays in one place on the top of my head.

Meze Audio Boom Mic: Use some of your favorite headphones for gaming, streaming, work calls & more!

I just got mine in yesterday and tested them not only with my Meze 99 Classics, but also Focal Radiance, HiFIMAN Sundara, Beyerdynamic Amiron Home, FiiO FT3, and Sony MDR-Z7M2 — all worked, although microphone placement wasn’t as superb with the Z7M2 due to the placement of the inputs.

However, the build seems a bit flimsy — mine came with the 3.5mm TRRS end loosey-goosey…. Mic sounds WAY better than the cheap inline mic on the 99 Classic’s stock cable, though, for sure! :)
