Meze 99 Classics Discussion + Impressions Thread

Hi, I recently heard the 99's at NY CanJam and was really impressed. I am seriously considering purchasing, but I have a few questions that need answering before pulling the trigger. First off, can you buy those new deep earpads after market? Second, has anyone used these for gaming? I'm a big Rainbow Six Siege fan and need to hear accurate footsteps to play that game. Third, has anyone used these with the Xbox One, if so does the inline mic work with it? Thanks.

I've used the 99 Classics to play a bunch of Diablo 3.  They worked well and even though that game doesn't have strong positional audio I could still clearly hear all of the individual sounds and music.  They are nice enough and detailed enough that they should be decent for gaming but will not have as large a soundstage as an open back headphone.

Hello, i've been searching the web and head fi as I am looking to purchase a mew headphone. I'm currently considering the Audeze Sine without the cipher cable but paired up with my HTC 10 & Fiio A5 or the Meze 99. Just wondering which would have me the most detail retrieval out of the two as I want the best bang for the buck and a warm but very detailed sound. I have heard the Sine and absolutely loved them but haven't got the chance to try the 99s. Any thoughts and comparisons?

I'm also interested in these just do to value and bang-for-the-buck. Currently have senn hd650 and Sony 7520 cans... maybe time to mix things up...

And there is not too much of a risk money-wise. Not like having to spend $1500 to $2,000 for some Audeze lcd3 etc which has considerable divisiveness on its sound sig.

Wonder if the company is working on some new headphones.

Hey @canali

As a matter of fact we are and the price range, build and sound quality will be upped and taken to another direction/level.

Rest assured, the Head-Fi community will be among the first to find out about these products and even listen to them. We'll release more information in due time.

Hey @Nrocket,

The earpads that come with the 99 Classics Walnut Silver and Walnut Gold are the largest pads to date, the 3rd size as some would call it here in the forums.

As for the gaming part, the most we've played was the original Super Mario Bros. but oooh those Goombas getting squished in high res, just magic!

You should ask some people in the forums what they think of the 99 Classics and gaming.

I've gamed quite a bit with my 99 Classics and they work well.  Being a closed back design the soundstage isn't as large as a good open back headphone but the imaging and directional cues are spot on.  On the upside, the bass tends to be better and tighter on the 99 Classics as compared to most open back headphones I have tried and this certainly makes them more "fun" for gaming.

Wow. That is interesting. Any idea when this is going to happen? On the fence deciding on the 99s. But, given how often i buy headphones, I would rather wait.....

I have to agree with you there. I mostly have played fallout 4 with them, and they make for a genuinely immersive experience when playing. Everything sounds just like it should.
