If you want all of the boominess to go away, you need to cut the bass at about -3 to -5dB from 80 Hz to 150 Hz and increase it at +3.5 to +4.5 below 80Hz

Read your article and applied your profile and it's done wonders! Thanks. I only increased the 16K by 8dB though.

I would recommend skipping the Stpad2s if you have big ears and going for the BW Sheepskin nonangled. They are comfy but have been noted to not do much for the bass. Hopefully, the extra damping in the Noir should rectify that, but if it you still don’t feel it’s enough, open up your cans and stuff some cotton balls in the wooden cups. Toss out the circle foam and put like 3-5 balls in there. That gave me the ideal response in my Classics (I used 5 balls).

I'll look about for these pads first. The BW sheepskins sound decent. Will look online for them. Thanks.

Have been trying mine alongside the Grado SR225e and these are a welcoming warm sound. The comfort is a stark contrast to the Grado, I can wear these for hours! I'm very happy.

Lovely thingy for your cans you have in there :L3000:

The BW Sheepskin I used for quite a while and they are really good but you lose out on sub bass rumble. I've been using the Shure 1540 pads for a few months now and love them, sub bass rumble with good impact. They seal great despit being fabric.

More listening after the EQ profile setting...

John Coltrane sounds pretty good right now. Enjoyed Blue Train.

Norah Jones tho... The mids were too forward without an actual crispness, so she just sounded lazy. The highs were again in the wings, so to speak but the lows were still "meh".

And what I think I'm missing is the darkness that I'd loved in my Nighthawks. These 99N don't come across dark enough, IMHO.

I am totally enjoying my new Meze Noir headphones and think that the pads that came on them are more comfortable than the originals that came on my 99 Classics. Can anyone tell me which version of the Meze pads come on the Noir so that I can purchase another pair for my Classics.

Just joined the Noir drop! Excited to have it in my hands in a few days. I've become a big fan of the "fun" audiophile sound, and I love smooth, coherent headphones that don't sacrifice too much on speed and detail. Hoping the 99 Noir lives up to that, and can prevent too much leakage even while wearing glasses.

It may have been a while so I may have forgotten the original 99C pad comfort, but I switched from the pads the Noir came with to the smaller pad and I think I like the delivered pad better, tighter bass and better cup placement/seal.. Could be the beer talking...
