Because it is made by them and looks a lot like them and I thought I heard it even has the 1 Tesla driver in it. No?  In any case I would like to hear a comparison against the T1 and T5p since that is what they would be replacing for me.

It is made by Beyer? Does Beyer make 200 ohm drivers? The metal bails look Beyer but that's where it ends, especially the sound.

  I listened to mine last night and I was amazed of the level of detail I was hearing. I wondered if it was me tricking myself into it to justify the investment so I change to my PM-1 with DHC cable (which I love) and the PM-1 very musical but I lost a lot of detail I was hearing with the MHP1000 and the other significant difference was the impact of the bass. After the PM-1 I went to my SR-009 and the detail information came back. These MHP1000 are very transparent, detailed (close to SR-009 level), dynamic and musical at the same time.. 
 
Because of the transparency and detail they are also unforgiving. They are going to show you whatever is coming to them. If you have a weak link upstream or a bad recording they are going to let you know about it

Agree 100%. The difference in gear and recordings was more apparent than ever before. But again, they do this without resorting to brightness or accentuation of parts of the FR.

ok you win, they are not made by Beyer or maybe they are but who cares right?  Still I would like to know how they compare to the T1 and T5p as it will be replacing those. I get that they sound different, would you mind explaining the differences?

They do have Tesla technology, which I assume is the driver designed by Beyer to McIntosh specification, and the earcups also to spec. The sound is much better balanced and detailed without resorting to brightness like the Beyerdynamics.

Well, I am not going to be able to do this comparison. I took my MHP1000 back to the dealer today because they showed a distortion from the left driver at certain frequency somewhere between upper bass and lower midrange. They checked them at the site and agreed there is an issue with it so they are contacting McIntosh Monday.

That's an issue not mentioned previously, which I can safely assume to be new.  McIntosh Laboratory has a long history of fixing new issues as they are reported in their home and automotive hardware; we'll see whether that holds true with the MHP1000 headphone.

How is the comfort and weight of the cable?  The 1/4" cable.  They include an 1/8" as well?  How are they powered from an ipod/phone without an amp?

I noticed it just a few hours after I start using them at home. I opt for letting them burn in for about 200 hours to see if it goes away but it didn't. I will know more hopefully tomorrow after my dear talks to their McIntosh rep.

Both cables (the 1/4" and 1/8") are extremely light. Probably one of the lightest stock cables I have experienced. I did not try them with an iPhone or iPod but they seemed very easy to drive so I would assume they should have a problem. Maybe Beagle can comment on this.

At this price level they should replace them straight away, no questions asked

Haven't tried them on either as I don't own any. IMO it would be akin to hooking $50,000 loudspeakers to a boombox.

Or just having a really nice travel set of phones.  I did kind of think it was odd they even came with 1/8" jack.  caused me to do a double take at first wondering who would use them portably but I use my T5p portably without amp since they are very sensitive and those aren't cheap either.  Currently I also have some Sony 7520 for rougher road use but if these sound good enough I might take them out and about on the simpler trips.
