Judging by that reply it would appear that the MHP-1000 requires little introduction and is almost exceeding expectations.

Good to hear you got them earlier than expected (good stuff musicman59).  Perhaps keep us posted as they mature.

Transparent.....without being bright. Balanced.....without being boring. Spacious.....without being off in the distance. I've detected no specific colorations as of yet.

I listened to mine last night and I was amazed of the level of detail I was hearing. I wondered if it was me tricking myself into it to justify the investment so I change to my PM-1 with DHC cable (which I love) and the PM-1 very musical but I lost a lot of detail I was hearing with the MHP1000 and the other significant difference was the impact of the bass. After the PM-1 I went to my SR-009 and the detail information came back. These MHP1000 are very transparent, detailed (close to SR-009 level), dynamic and musical at the same time..

Because of the transparency and detail they are also unforgiving. They are going to show you whatever is coming to them. If you have a weak link upstream or a bad recording they are going to let you know about it

musicman, how would you compare the alpha prime to the mhp1000? Both are closed phones, although not quite in the same price bracket.

I have not made that comparison yet. I will try to get to it over the weekend and report back.

Agree 100%. The difference in gear and recordings was more apparent than ever before. But again, they do this without resorting to brightness or accentuation of parts of the FR.
