I have a pair of Grado sr320is cans, but i would like to upgrade from my fii0 E5. Fortunetly, I have an old Mcintosh c35 preamp and a Mcintosh mc7270. How would i go about hooking up either of them (preferably both) to my computer, and would it be beneficial to the overall sound.

nice gear,,  i would get the udac 2 or an hdp(same chip), but you have mcintosh gear so u might have a higher budget

-i have  always been in love with the mcintoosh c46 preamp with its analog 7 band? eq:) love that one   fyi,

ps audio and parasound, bel canto are good too. also check out the yulong dac100 i think, just keep in mind a heck of a lot of these high dollar dac's  donot support 24/96 capability and you will be left 16 bit,   not always bad but there can be better.

Sorry i did not list my budget, but it is rather limited. these are all from my father's old stereo system. I wasn't really asking what type of dac to get though... I was wondering if it would be possible to hook my headphones up to the amplifier, the mc7270 has no headphone jack. I am also unsure of how to hook my computer up to this system.

lol, sorry i just really like some old mcintosh eq and thought u needed a dac cuz u said u wanted to hook your computer up.   so u need  a usb dac, and if u are  on a budget d highly recommend the uudac 2 to connect your laptop to your amp.
so no head jack on amp?  then you have 2-3 options, get  a separate head amp, or a dac that also has a head amp built in (udac2 does but u may want bigger), or you can hook your phones to the rca outputs on the back of your amp.  u can get the nuforce udac 2 for 130, well worth it for the upgrade , i cannot think of any thing that would sound better for the price via usb, maybe a musiland usb dac might be of interest.

thank you for your imput, i understand what you are saying now. Sounds great ATM. I'll only get to enjoy this headphone bliss for a while because my dad is getting his speakers fixed.
