Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

I like the Aiyima DAC-A2. The headphone jack is a bit too loose on mine, however. I always use EQ (bass head) and the tone controls are perfect for me. They also effect the RCA outs on the back. Because it defeats the RCAs when the hf jack is plugged, and I leave my headphones plugged in all of the time, I split the RCA outs to powered speakers and an O2 amp. The Aiyima headphone out sounds better to me, however. I also prefer the sound of the (analog?) tone knobs to digital. I use equalizer APO for subtle tweaks now but the big bass boost is handled with unit's bass knob.

I recently got the 58x and was enjoying them on the Schiit Fulla, but decided to try the ifi Zen DAC v2 and was disappointed in the way they sound on the ifi. Has anyone else tried the 58x on the Zen DAC v2?

If I may ask, what to your ears was off with that combo?

Picked this up as a part of the BF sale. Looking forward to having an easy to drive neutral-warm can that will take to my DAP. Also, always wanted to own a Senn from this line. I think the HD58X will suit me best.

I checked out the Sennheiser HD58x it has decent bass response but its treble is definitely lacking in extension. For the sale price of $129 its definitely a good buy. I find this the most comfortable headphone I own because its so light

To me my Phillips X2HR sound great on the Zen DAC v2, but not the 58x, except while gaming.

What's a good amp/DAC combo for the 58x?
The regular Zen-Dac is good with brighter headphones as it's not a bright Dac.
It's not a great pairing with the hd58X as they also roll of the highs as well.
The Signature Zen-Dac is a brighter Dac but unfortunately it's also more expensive as it comes with an upgraded power supply.
I think they would sell a lot more if they sold it with just a regular PS and priced it at $199 as it's a great sounding Dac.

I think I figured it out. I don't like the way they sound using Tidal MQA. They sound better using Amazon HD. I'm new to learning quality music steaming.

What color should the light be streaming through Amazon HD? My light is yellow. On Tidal it was either blue, or green.

My 58x sounds much better on chord mojo than zen dac more details, better extension

Although I never have listen the zen dac both my HD58X and 6XX sound amazing from both my xdsd and xcan especially with a balanced cable. It is like the ifi products are made especially for the Sennheiser 6 series. Unbelievable synergy.

Although lately I am using the original cable and listening with my old Apple devices that have a headphone jack enjoying the new lossless mode.

As far as the Amazon hd service I did not like it at all, no comparison with tidal according to me. When I used it the signal changed bitrate on a fiber WiFi connection from hd to lower bitrate quite unexpectedly. The good think is because of this service the new max firestick has LDAC Bluetooth the best thing probably that happened to my life the last year...LOL

i Always thought that these headphones if they have smaller drivers than 660s as some people suspect they belong more to the 5 series. But know I am thinking that if these drivers are made in Ireland like any other 6 series and the 5 series drivers are NOT made in Ireland then these headphones might be more closer to the 660s no matter how more uglier these drivers look in comparison to 660s and then clearly are an amazing bargain.

Picked up a set of the HD58X on BF sale and I'm honestly loving them paired with my DAP. I'm waiting for a balanced cable to arrive before unleashing its full potential, but I've found single-ended, I can easily EQ in a little extra sub-bass to suit my tastes. I know the 58X isn't as tight in the lowest octaves but I'm still enjoying the extent to which just leveling off bass rolloff adds body and scale to the headphones. While I generally prefer IEMs for my DAP listening as the use-case is more appropriate and power draws far less, I'm relieved to discover this an excellent pairing with the R01.

Now, if only some kooky engineer could make it a closed back version

Thanks for your input and yes, Senns you listed go rather well with our products. We got a ton of feedback about these cans very fond of our ZEN range nearby, in particular our ZEN CAN Signature 6XX released a while ago.

Yes, LDAC really shows rather well how good wireless audio sent over BT can sound these days

I have been wanting to try a pair of those 3D printed closed back caps...

May look like a small simple closed cup but there's quite a bit of advanced multi-layer (5/7) meta-material resonance treatment systems happening hidden within, think of a dual layer secondary transmission line loading maze system with a primary Helmholtz resonating chambers system deployed....Interesting.....Maybe early on-set madness also lol...wooohooo... Alien tech alert!!! :alien: hehehe

It's a lovely effort and it also looks intricate. I was about to ask you about those inner tunnels, or rather how they impact performance. How long did it take to print these cups and finish them btw.?
