A new version of the Magna Ultra Mano is expected to be released later this year. A two-box version. I just spoke with one of the owners.

I hope this thread comes back to life, because I'm very interested in this streaming solution.

I have the original MK 1 version and I'm very happy with it. The a new 2 chassis version would be great.

Can anyone say anything about the sample rates?
Can the Mano really only go up to 192kHz?

any feedback about new Mano ULTRA mkIII as roon endpoint compared to the sound quality of DDC Gustard U18 or Audio GD?

If they update this to allow optical rather than copper then I'll buy this with the Farad supply. I really want to try the Sonore Optical Rendu but the price is insane for what it is. Currently using a Pi4 with LPSU and Ropieee > USB out > DDC

interesting, would be very nice to see a head to head comparisson with the yet to be released Holo Red streamer/DDC. One question, is the Mano still not able for use directly as NAA to HQPlayer? Not that Im an expert into WHY you wanna run HQP via an NAA, but that's how Ive been doing with ultra/optical Rendus and it's quite easy

HQPlayer on RPi maybe not the best idea? https://community.roonlabs.com/t/hqplayer-embedded-on-raspberry-pi-4/110769

The Holo Red looks good, it was my question, too. Looking into it, I can't see why would it be better than the Mk3 Farad, especially with the LAN isolation option, but no amount of speculation will tell that, listening will.

I'd also consider the Pi2 Mercury (V2) streamer, especially with the internal M.2 interface. But if you have Rendu, maybe wouldn't make much sense to change.

Magna Hifi is a site/company based out of the Netherlands who sells and services Audio-GD equipment. I have yet to have any dealings with them but have read good things. I was on their site the other day looking around and noticed they have recently created and started selling a music streamer / server. It looks very interesting and began to search around for reviews or ANYTHING written about it and did not come up with much, and not a single mention i could find on head-fi yet. So....thought i would check to see if perhaps anyone has indeed tried it out and just not spoken up about it, or at least raise awareness of it's existence to the wonderful people of head-fi.

The Mano streamer is built based on the extremely high Audio-GD standards such as discrete Class A power supply with more than 20.000uF power capacity, an high quality R-Core transformer and ultra-low noise oscillators.

Lead-time for this handcrafted streamer is 4-6 weeks

TECHNOLOGY

  1. Fully reclocked I2S over HDMI output PS Audio / Audio-GD compatible pin layout.
  2. Galvanic isolated and reclocked SPDIF output (RCA or BNC Connection)
  3. 2x Crystek’s model CCHD-957 oscillators designed specifically for High Definition Audio (HD Audio). It features a typical low close-in phase noise of -100 dBc/Hz @ 10 Hz offset, and a noise floor of -169 dBc/Hz. With this extreme low phase noise performance, you will “Hear the Difference”.
  4. Based on Raspberry Pi 2 / 3 providing I2S output including the MCLK (Master Clock from Magna Hifi's digital board.
  5. Ultra low noise Tentlabs shunt regulators for oscillators and digital audio circuit. The shunts drop in instead of commonly used industrial types of regulators. Having much lower noise, true wide bandwidth and linear output impedance, they'll bring improvement to sound in terms of: Higher resolution, better transparency, clean low ends and increased dynamics.
  6. Low noise Power supply provided without generating unwanted noise and without passing it along into the sensitive digitital signal path.
  7. 2 original Toshiba 2SC5200 transistors and 20.000 uF power capacity
  8. High quality R-core transformer. The R-core transformer has high isolation degree. it can improve the signal-to-noise ratio, isolate the harmonic interference, reduce the noise, make he background cleaner. R core transforer can fully improve the quality of sound.
  9. Power rail for Raspberry and separated power rail for digital audio circuit
  10. Fully reclocked I2S signal path with seperated data reclocking.
  11. HDMI I2S Audio-GD output board compatible with Audio-GD I2S
  12. Aluminium black housing with 3mm front panel and blue led.

Looks to be a great companion to Audio-GD dacs but by no means limited to.
Interested to get the thoughts from some of you much more knowledgeable head-fi folks.
Piece of ****?
Great new streamer at a fair price?
Has potential?

Thanks in advance!
The mano's $1300 USD is still more than I want to spend.

I wish there was a $500 USD streamer with i2s for my Denafrips Ares II 12th anniversary DAC. My music source is Apple Music lossless and hi-res lossless.

You could buy a Denafrips Iris and use that. It'll give you I2S and you can feed it via USB.

Yes, a Youtube video by British Audiophile () on the Denafrips Iris + the new Denafrips Ares II 12th improved detail considerably reaching practically the performance of the Gustard R26.
He () said that the IRIS clock is better than the Pontus II's clock; it's the same as the Denafrips Venus II .

Tharbamar () said the IRIS reduced noise, thus improving everything including Apple Music. IRS makes bright speakers sound better via reducing the brightness.
He said the IRIS significantly improved the Ares II or Ares II 12th.
He said that the Ares II 12th + IRIS rivaled even the bigger brother Denafrips Pontus II by itself.
He said that the IRIS helps significantly more if you use RCA instead of XLR.

QUESTION: I wonder if the Denafrips Iris outperforms a streamer such as the Netherlands $1100 USD Magna Mano Mk3 Farad with builtin i2s.

So in the future, I'll buy the Denafrips Iris. Thank you for your suggestion.
