M1060c- open soundstage mod

Besides making it wider, did the diffusion do anything noticeable to the FR? Are those felt strips and dynamat on the slits? Does making it wider adversely affect the imaging?
The blue stuff is a 3m damping sheet and the beige is cork on the M1060. The dynamat on the m1060c, the 3m and the cork are not covering the airflow cutouts. They just dampen the magnet vibrations. I didnt notice anything bad about the mod. On the m1060 it didn't do as much as on the M1060c. the depth of the m1060 channel is more so there are more reflections. The M1060 was already wider mostly because the wood part is more shallow than the metal on the M1060c.

FWIW the imaging is awesome now, wide, detailed and spacious. Hotel CA is amazing for example. Really nails the crowd.

Alright I think I might try modifying it even more. But I have a question what kind effect does it do when you glue that cork things. I imagine you make the gaps for driver smaller, why would that improve stuff?

The cork has adhesive so you just stick it on. It probably the angle of the pict, but i don't try to make the gaps smaller. So I am not saying covering the gaps will make it better or improve anything. FWIW I replaced the cork with more 3m sheets. Also I have some other stuff on the way to try.

FWIW things are sounding crazy good.

I recommend adding a few strips at first. You can overdamp things. Though in my case I can make up for things with my amps' bass boost or my bbe sonic maximizer. YMMV. It will clean things up a ton.

Good luck!

Didn't find 3m thing but I found textile tape. So I am gonna stack some of these and hopefully it works as dampening thing

Its not the 3m sheet or dynamat but it should do a bit of damping. Rope caulk or poster putty or blue tak might work too. Couldn't hurt to cut a bit thinner so you don't overlap the channels as much.

I am hopefully getting a precut product soon that is designed to dampen and is in thin strips already. Let you know.

Nice job on the outside reflections.

How does it all sound now?

Wider I guess. I have enhanced effected of everything getting in your face when I put hands over the driver, so something has changed with depth. I think less treble too because I had treble too sharp before.

I know this thread has been dead for awhile but I’m new to nice headphones and I got a pair of the 1060s from the Mrs.’s for Christmas.
Question is, are there places you can send these to that do various mods for you based on what your trying to achieve?
Not sure I’m at the point where I want to open these up and start DIY’ing mods. 😂
