LZ-A4 Impressions and Discussion Thread

I must be lucky. Using them daily, no issues so far (weared them a couple of times under light-moderate rain for 10 or 15 minutes each at less, I've got very bad memory).
Nothing to do with that but definitely they're not the most comfortable ones. I lose the seal from time to time depending on jaw movement, sweat...

Since my right earphone has the "quiet driver" issue (goes quiet after listening for a while, if it's warm or humid (I'm in Houston...)) - I was wondering if anyone could recommend another earphone, in the sub-$200 range, that sounds similar to the LZ A4 (Grey Nozzle, Red Back)?

Thanks!

Maybe you could into the Oriolus Finschi. It's the hidden gem around these woods. Ugh. I myself am struggling if I wanted that or the flc9n.

After discovering that I didn't hate silver-plated copper cables, I decided to give them a try with the A4 because I was a bit tired of the quantity of the bass levels. Turns out that the pairing works well, given how the silver-plating smooths out the natural treble extension of the A4's BA driver is as well.

Yeah, I've been enjoying the MEE mmcx 2.5mm balanced cable that comes with the adapter set with the A4. I've tried out and been disappointed by a LOT of IEMs. I think I'm just super picky. The A4 seems to keep reappearing on my active roster, as I experiment with different cables and filters.

The gray filter does a good job of boosting the A4 sound to make it more mid-centric where it really counts (~2k), but also by slightly pushing the treble back even further. With the silver-plated cable, the treble is bumped up and extends smoothly, but from a place where it's already relaxed compared to the mids and bass. And the bass is pretty much perfect with the cables. Still very forward, but more linear as it extends into the sub-bass, while still tamed and mostly in control of any bloat.

Fingers crossed it'll pair well with the Shanling M5s, whenever that gets released. I'm excited to have an "endgame" portable set-up that includes the A4.

Quick question folks...

I am reluctantly going to be letting go of my LZ A4s, only because I got a good trade deal on some FLC8s, and I can’t justify keeping both. Gonna miss these ‘phones though, the first time I’ve been truly and persistently content with iems...

Anyhoo... they’re in great shape with original packaging but I noticed that one each of the black bass and treble filters are missing. Is it still possible to buy replacement filters for them, and if so, how? Want to give good advice to any potential purchaser on the issue. If not I guess I’ll just sell as is...

Thanks!

It is not a review, but I wrote some words regarding A4s at Massdrop that maybe can help someone here too:

These IEMs are incredible for its price. Have had them for about a year now, so it is not thing of recent hype.

Changed cable and tips (would not recommended crystal copper cables, because highs are majestic already and the sound turns too crispy for my tastes). With a good OFC copper cable, I'm more than happy with the sound.
Regarding tips, JVC Spiral dots are working the best for a lot of users (for me too, seal is now rock-solid using ML size for right ear and M for the left).

Being honest, I don't have too much experience with real expensive IEMs (never tried 800$+ model and never owned 400$+), but the clarity of these is clearly hard to beat in their class (and quite some more expensive options). The bass is very good and multifaceted (from a little bit enhacement to a real bass bomb using red back filters and correct front filters). The mids are very good too. Male voices a bit recessed and very natural, female voices a bit forward.

With this, I honestly think that most people would have all they want in a hard-to-beat pair of mid-fi IEMs, and of course, the filters can always be changed to look for a different sound signature.

Real cons found: Not the best cable, not the best tips. Some people has had moisture issues, but I use them every day in Barcelona (with frequent moisture indexes above 80%, raining weather, sunny weather...) and only noticed it once, after running and sweating a lot on a sunny day. But after 5 minutes with the affected front filter out of the IEM at home, the issue disappeared. Finally, some people see the mmcx cable connection as a fault (it is fussy, yes) but I consider it a good thing due to cable changing turns into an easy operation. The base sound of the A4s is very very good and a real chameleon, due to filters. They can be changed to my linkings and I stopped using a couple of other IEMs I had reserved to Jazz, classical and acoustic music (JVC HA-FXT90, RHA-MA750, Advanced Sound S2000 and Shure SE425, which I never really liked because "poor" highs, but are very relaxed).

As final words, I have been looking for another pair of IEMs under 250€-300€ to improve the SQ but after listen to some of them, I have no clear choices and decided to stay with A4s (looked for iBaso IT03 too, as many people says that they have something special apart from SQ, but I have not found them in any store in Spain or the European Union and, being honest, I don't think that the sound would have improved remarkably if that was the case)

PS: I'm really looking for a <300€ pair of IEMs that be a real (not huge) improvement over A4s. Looked to FLCs 8d/s/n but I do not think the difference justifies the expense (and I don't know any store here where I can go to try IEMs before purchase in Barcelona). Just in case someone has a good suggestion.

Hello again! New post so it is more visible (sorry for abuse!!!). Pasted from discovery thread here too:

Hi, I'm looking for a clear LZ-A4 improvement.
Something special. Not tunable (no problem with it, but not looking for now). If I need tunning because certain music needs a signature that I have not phones, the A4s. always make me happy. I've been reading about AKG N40s, ATH-CKR100is, HK6 and others (not sure if will have enough bufget, I think 400€ for sure, but IT04s too). I'm looking for easy engaing sound. That sensation when you put on an iem for the very first time and it makes you smile. I like music to have body, texture, maybe a bit warm, but very clear and spatious. I listen often to musical dense tracks and hate congestion the most. If I try to be really concrete, I'd say 3D, openess sensation, engaging bass and good timbre. Soundstage size, isolation, aesthetics... They're not important.
Oh! All my cables are mmcx, but not real mind changing.
I have near zero experience with IEMs at this rice range :frowning2: If someone can help me, it will be much apreciated!

PS- If you honestly think that there's an IEM between 300€-400€ that offers clearly more than price says, please let me know too ^_^ thx!
