Headphoneus Supremus
So these arrived today. I am nowhere near achieving burn in (well I do have 30 minutes on these....). Nevertheless, I can fully understand the buzz around these.
Like the FLC8S; you can dial in a sound signature that appeals. I am starting off in something of a mid-range tuning. I am using my favorite tips, the JVC Spiral Dot. So far I would describe these as an enjoyable listen. The comfort is slightly less agreeable than the FLC8S; but not a problem. Much better than the IT03 for me, for example. Unlike the FLC8S or the LZ-A2, I don't think you could fall asleep to these with one ear on the pillow.
Its really way to early to make any other kind of observation that I could support down the road. But it does seem like these do not have quite the same level of "micro detail" afforded by the FLC8S. The FLC8S manages the fine line of being close to reference while still being somewhat affordable and comfortable to wear. The LZ-A4 strikes may as possibly one step down compared to reference units I have heard, including the FLC8S, but boy howdy it also costs about 1/5 as much as many of the reference units. I could easily understand why some people would buy these and call it a day for a long period of time.
The LZ-A4 does remind me quite a bit of my beloved LZ-A2 unit. The treble is more refined on the LZ-A4. Even with minimal burn in that comes through. But I will venture that the LZ-A2 feels smaller in the ear and therefore a bit more comfortable.
