If it is or isn't, that doesn't excuse it from having QC issues :)

Bob said they have made major changes to address current and future QC issues. He mentioned the other day about a new cable

Nice test peter but how detailed is sound? In my next purchase i definitely need more deatailed sound than my asg1 plus. I think even my rockets have more detailed sound.Asg1 plus is more textured and little bit warmer than rockets. Can you say about lza4 it is rokets clear and clean sound in combination with better texture from asg1 plus with more deatil than both? That is something i definitely want.
I had both aurisonics and found the 1plus to be more detailed and more textured

Hey guys, first time posting here, been a lurker for a while.

I'm rather new to audiophile world and I have a couple of questions.
I just bought a pair of LZ-A4 to pair with my iPod classic 7th gen and I was wondering how much these IEM would benefit from adding an amplifier to the iPod.
Also, would it be worth it to invest in a Fiio X5 2nd gen to get the most out of it? Is my setup alone enough to get the full glory out of the LZ A4 given that the files I'm playing on my iPod are lossless?

Thank you for your help,
Marcel

Welcome to Head-Fi, sorry about your wallet ;)

The A4 is easy to drive and sound decent even from the headphone output on my cheap Chuwi tablet so I'd suggests that you start with the sources you have and see what you think. Like all other headphones and IEMs they'll sound better with a more refined source but if the difference is big enough to be worth it will be a very individual judgement. The biggest change in sound quality will always come from new headphones/IEMs/earphones in my experience.

Thank you for your reply. I will try it with my setup first and then hopefully find a vendor in Montréal that have Fiios in display to try it out.

Sounds like a good plan, can't beat try before you buy ;)

I hope this wasn't asked before, but is the A4 worth getting when you own the A3s? I'm very satisfied with the A3s but would sell them and get the A4 instead if the upgrade is worth it. :) Thanks in advance.

I have not heard a single bad thing about the A4. It's getting all praises from multiple experienced members. Some calling it their new favorite. It was enough to sell me. Mine should be here in a week. Express shipping on AE FTW

This is an easy one. I've only had the A4 for a day and a half, but there is no comparison with the A3. I was slightly disappointed in the A3 after owning the A2, but now the A4 has redeemed everything and brought so much more to the table. It has made a lot of my other IEMs irrelevant as well, such as the forbidden IEM I am now allowed to mention. What in the heck do I do with that one now?!

Collin, just one quesiton.
How's the A4 holding up to the Velvet?

Collin, just one quesiton.
How's the A4 holding up to the Velvet?

Initial impressions are very, very positive. I'm planning to write more reviews since I have a ton of IEMs and will go into more of a comparison there, but here are my initial takeaways:

-Fitment is better for me on the A4 (but I am biased toward wearing cables down)
-Sub-bass is better on the A4
-Mid-bass is more present on the Velvet which give them an overall warmer sound signature (though not necessarily more accurate or detailed)
-Mids are a bit more laid back on the A4
-Highs are somewhat comparable for me

This may sound sort of neutral and not answering your question, but it's important to remember that we're talking about a $200 IEM against an $800 IEM. The very fact that I'm mentioning them in the came post is proof that LZ has seriously changed the landscape this time. I love the A4.

Also worth noting is that I'm only on my third nozzle combination, but so far I prefer reds for the back and black for the front (which I believe is 10-24,000hz if I recall?).

Cheers,

-Collin-
