Lyr 3 - The new Coherence™ and Continuity™ hybrid amplifier from Schiit - Impression & discussion thread

After many lost battles with the Lyr + I have now got the Lyr 3. I really like the toggle buttons on the Ltr 3 a lot more compared to the generic buttons on the Lyr +. Its also instant when switching gain modes on the Lyr 3 in comparison to waiting 5-6 seconds on the Lyr + so that experience is a lot better. I have dearly missed not being able to use my Sylvania VT231 Bad Boy tube with the 800S as I do not enjoy it nearly as much as the Cayin HA-3A. As soon as I listened I was transported to the astonishing level of soundstage, detail and bass this tube provides on the 800S with the Lyr. I really hope this amplifier doesn't fail on me and I will not even swap any tubes this time because I am scared to do so but to be honest its the perfect tube for the 800S so I don't need to anyhow.
I’ve had my Lyr3 since they first hit the market. It did have a problem shortly after I got it, but it’s been clear sailing since. Very nice amp for the money and a great choice if you need a lot of power but don’t want to sell a kid to pay for it.

I ended up favoring a Psvane CV181 Mk2. Took forever to break in and it’s still not what I would call a warm tube, but the clarity and imaging are outstanding.

I just bought a 2++ because my Vali 2 is so darn good. I got some GE JAN 5670s fr under a fiver each (read: a bunch), and they are abt all I use in Vali any more. It’s my travel rig, though sometimes either sit on my main system, replacing Lyr 3 (w 6J5s) or Valhalla 2. Each pulls its own weight, and is a new experience when it gets swapped in. Bliss…

I’ve got a sweet 1960’s leather camera case that I think would fit a Vali (tube removed), a Modi and a pair of headphones. I will build a travel rig someday.

When I fly, I throw Vali in a quart ziptop bag wrapped in foam. But for car trips, I went a bit overboard…

That is sweet! Most of my trips are car trips. My youngest went to VMI, BTW. Class of 09.
Hope he had a better time than I, but I suspect not! ‘82 for me… Back when times were… a bit different. But that travel rig is pretty wonderful, all told. And the case is from harbor freight, keeping costs down.

Not VMI, but '80 for me and I had a blast in college, even going to classes occasionally. 🤣

This morning in Lyr 3…

2 x 6J5 masquerading as a 6SN7 (and doing a darn great job of it, too!)

Have my LYR 3, a brand new LISST, a Russian 6H8C and a socket saver/tube elevator package for sale (on USAM) if anyone is interested.
LYR 3 is silver with no inboard DAC, and has small dings on the front panel face, upper left edge and volume knob from previous owner. (Zoom in on the first photo for a more critical view.)

[SALE SUSPENDED]

Does anyone know why this happens? I have a Lyr 3 with a Analog Devices chip Multi-Bit DAC card and the unit "clicks" whenever it starts / stops playback. Btw I don't mean the startup click where it powers on.
