Love my Lyr 3. But I use it as a preamp, not a headphone amp. I also bought it because it came (used) with a multibit card. Total price was very good. Two months later Lyr+ dropped. I wasn’t unhappy, I really wanted that multibit card. I’ve never heard the Lyr+ nor the newer multibit DACs.Hi wanted to see what peoples opinions on the Lyr 3/Lyr+ . im looking to buy a Lyr 3 ( Hard time finding one) and wanted to see what you all think it sounds like compared to a true OTL amp.

The socket saver arrived today(!):

(1) That annoying, sunken tube design . . .

(2) That's a Herbie's HAL-O 35 tube ring/damper, BTW.

(3) Considering height of socket saver vs. depth of recess.

(4) Nice finished ceramic with gold-plated sockets.

(5) The base of the tube is now flush with the top surface of the Lyr 3, which is just right. No more grabbing and rocking/wiggling the tube by the glass.
>Am currently enjoying the Lyr 3 with the Philips JAN 6SN7WGTA. In addition to bringing a good sense of detail, delicacy, air and space, this tube offers (surprisingly) lovely tone.
>A pair of Cardas RCA (M) to 3-pin XLR (F) adapters also came today, which will enable me to run the Cardas Clear Light and XLO Signature S3-2 XLR cables from Gustard X18 to Lyr 3. Am currently running a 5-foot custom-made pair of UPOCC SE interconnects--it's a ju(mb)/(ng)le back there. (More photos to follow.)

Am going (Cardas Clear Light) XLR out from the Gustard to the Lyr 3 and things sound much bigger and better: well sorted out and balanced. That JAN Philips tube continues to pleasantly surprise me(!).

Another great evening with the Lyr 3. Paired tonight with the US Navy Grey Glass and Focal Clear (OG)

Just ordered a(n) LISST from Schiit.
It should arrive next week.
Would be interested in hearing from other LYR 3 owners who use the LISST, and what their experience currently is or has been.

It probably makes the Lyr 3 more like the solid-state mode of the Lyr+, which I also own & like.Just ordered a(n) LISST from Schiit.

Honestly, LISST in Lyr 3 is truly wonderful, it’s in my normal rotation. I don’t think it sounds quite like Lyr+ in SS mode, it’s better. Can’t quantify that, but I like Lyr 3 better than Lyr+ overall. Regardless, enjoy!Just ordered a(n) LISST from Schiit.

nota bene: though I’ve spent time in the Schittr with Lyr+, I did not have Lyr 3 with me, so all my comparisons were from memory. I find soundstage to be better in width and depth. I only had stock tube to review with in the + as well. Not a very scientific comparison, so this isn’t very scientific, but either way, I do not find ir worth upgrading. But if I didn’t have Lyr 3… Life might well be differentInteresting. What do you prefer about the Lyr 3?

I have read other reviews that say ownership of the LYR 3 obviates the need/desire for the LYR+.

Whilst I’d love to have them side by side to demo and give you a solid answer, I can’t. But what I heard out of L+, given I have L3, didn't make me buy one.I have read other reviews that say ownership of the LYR 3 obviates the need for the LYR+.

The LISST has arrived and the LYR 3 sounds very good in solid state mode.

The "unboxing".

Tube damper for decorative purposes only.

Neotech UPOCC single-ended IN<--Tritium Tri-Phazer 2.0<--Cardas XLR (F)-to-RCA (M) adapter (using balanced OUT from Gustard X18).

$50 well-spent IMHO.

Schiit LYR 3|LISST vs. S.M.S.L. SP400 shoot-out to follow? . . . ? . . . ?
