Is the W4 worth over W4 EX, especially for only IEM user?
I am planning to update my W2.
I went with the EX, and I've been very happy with! I only use it with IEMs and my iPhone mini.
Do you think W4 EX and W4 have a gap in SQ in IEM?
I've not seen any detailed analysis on this. Maybe I missed it. I would love to have someone who has used both to provide some feedback!!

Apart from double the power (which is not only needed for headphones but also for IEMs) there are other characteristics by which they differ. At minute 25 of this video he explains some of them... soundstage, synergy, signal/noise ratio... etc... etc...

The price isn't that different... and I preferred to take the W4 without the cover... so the price is even closer.

Thanks, any links for AliExpress? That's where I buy usually. I saw they sell a clear silicone case that I liked too
No idea

Thanks for posting this review!

It doesn't seem that the reviewer sees a great difference in SQ, mostly is power. Later in the vid, he shows this chart. The scores are almost identical except for driving power & synergy.

Yes, if you want to use it with HPs, the W4 has a big advantage. For IEMs, not so much. I never have to use high gain on the EX for any of my IEMs.

And "Sound (Note weight and density)" category, do not underestimate extra power, even for IEMs, some are bitch to drive, more powerful sources sound more spacious and dynamic with harder hitting authoritative bass, even at the same volume.

There are IEMs on market that need more than 200mA power?

I still have 100Ohm ER4S (super hard to drive), 150Ohm Smabat ST-10s, and there is very nice YINMAN at 600Ohm I might get one day.
Even Monarch MK2 needs like 70 volume on W4 in high gain balanced connect.
More power does not always mean more volume, things just sound different with more DR.

Out of curiosity, have you had an opportunity to listen to both the W4 and W4 EX?
