Hi!
I found some problem on an old pair of HD580.
When checking the rear side for loose drivers, i touched the damper and it was not attached to the outer edge. The oval was about 90 degree (1/4) of the entire oval diameter detached from the plastic frame. Literally floating loosely when i carefully tried blew the dust off it.
I removed the pads and foam, trying to find how it was originally attached.
It had no glue on it, so I presume some kind of pressure fit or light molding process.
Now i checked the other cup - no defects there.
I tried attach the damper diaphragm back using miniscule amount of epoxy glue.
It seems OK, but the tension on the repaired damper is not so strong as it is on other (undamaged, still holding) parts of it.
The difference is small though.
Sonically, it is the same IMHO, I cannot detect any changes before and after the repair was done.
I tried some low rumble tones and subwoofer test signals, both cups produce the same level, undistorted, to my ears.
Is there any better way to fix this?
Except buying new driver elements with cup included, it's expensive.
Thanks
