I didn't expect it to be on your radar but there are weaker souls reading these forums. :smirk:
I don't want to waste people's money...

If there are weak souls interested in good sounding 12SL7's (have to heat then externally) but I bought brand new in the orig box, early 1950's RCA 12SL7GT's from audiotubes.com (Brent Jesse) for $5.00 ea (I bought 4 of them).

They are in the top 3 heard in this amp. Sound really really good, was unexpected!

Brent Jesse said he does not inventory his 12SL7's because they are "not popular" - to paypal him a few bucks and he will send the best of what he finds in his inventory. Said knew he had a bunch of NOS 1950s of various USA brands...

And Oh My did he ever "find" some sweet RCA 12SL7's NIB/NOS!

Highly reommended in the MK9!!

The TS 6SU7GTY arrived. And certainly appeares to be NOS and NIB. But has a slight hum in one channel that you hear w/no input.

Hum has changed in a 1/2 hour of usage. Hoping the tube “wakes up” fully from 60+ years of sleep and behaves…

Have had it happen in other NOS tubes that are 60 or 70 years old…

🤞

Update…

The hum was coming from my external heat schema. I made a bunch of changes today, to try and hide cords/wires and somehow was introducing noise into the heater power supply. Could not solve easily so pulled out external heat socket and plugged in new 6SU7GTY direct into amp.

Perfectly quiet. And it is one heck of a super performer.

Will compare to my other faves when I get the external heat straightened out.

I have sometimes had the same problem with external heating with some tubes. Not with all tubes of the same type though. Seems to be individual.

Always always always a ground problem! If you provide a "clear path to ground" the hum will disappear. Had it right prior to adjusting cords yesterday. Will fix it back up today.

Very impressed with the new Tung Sol last night. The fixated/mesmerized kind of impressed. Could not pause to fix

An album I have been studying, for the last 49 years (since it came out in 1973).

MK9 and Tung Sol drivers are helping me see new light that was shone…by the masters.

😋
Then this should get the LD-IX-TS treatment if not already…

Oh wow! Seems like I remember hearing something about this some time ago.
Please tell me more about it, @jonathan c

Appreciate!!
• MJM on acoustic guitar, Badal Roy on tabla, Dave Liebman on tenor/soprano sax, Jerry Goodman on violin, Charlie Haden (!) on acoustic bass, Billy Cobham on drums.
• Atmospheric & rewarding!! MJM’s prodigious ability / technique is even more evident on acoustic guitar vs ‘choked up’ Les Paul.

Came out 2 years prior to the collab with Carlos Santana! How did this escape my radar???

Appreciate @jonathan c
