This is a great tube. Better than the cleartop NU that I have (more bass) and more like what I remember of NU in other amps.
The TS BGRP, this NU and the biggest surprises…an RCA that looks like a Sylvania and the Russian 6N9S‘s (and the supplied Chinese one) are all very very nice in this amp. The USA 1950’s tubes are a bit more refined. But pretty astonished at the preformance of Rusky/China drivers, too.
Give this amp a properly working 6/12SL7 or 6N9S and you will hear goodness….
The Holy Grail…an NOS 1959 Tung Sol 6SU7GTW - is inbound…
Hi JV,
What you need now is a dual adapter 6J5GT to 6SN7 and a pair of Sylvania 6J5GT metal base tubes from 1950-53 (tall tube with green print or, learn to identify them; there are many rebrands).
Here is a rebranded one:
- Or Tung Sol 6J5GT. (Meanwhile skip the 6J5G tubes which cost much more and may not be better.)

I have faithfully Attended Roll-aholics Anonymous, and have been cured.
Bought this amp because it was not a roller amp.
Designing for SL7 is not optimal for SN7 or vice versa. Know they look alike, pinout alike and make will make sound. But some serious internal specification differences when designing an amp specific for each one.
