This is a great tube. Better than the cleartop NU that I have (more bass) and more like what I remember of NU in other amps.

The TS BGRP, this NU and the biggest surprises…an RCA that looks like a Sylvania and the Russian 6N9S‘s (and the supplied Chinese one) are all very very nice in this amp. The USA 1950’s tubes are a bit more refined. But pretty astonished at the preformance of Rusky/China drivers, too.

Give this amp a properly working 6/12SL7 or 6N9S and you will hear goodness….

The Holy Grail…an NOS 1959 Tung Sol 6SU7GTW - is inbound…😊

Hi JV,
What you need now is a dual adapter 6J5GT to 6SN7 and a pair of Sylvania 6J5GT metal base tubes from 1950-53 (tall tube with green print or, learn to identify them; there are many rebrands).
Here is a rebranded one:

- Or Tung Sol 6J5GT. (Meanwhile skip the 6J5G tubes which cost much more and may not be better.)

If you go for such an adapter - you or someone else - you could also try Ken-Rad 6C5 and/or RCA 6C5. I rarely use 6SN7 anymore.

(I know you said that tube rolling isn't for you anymore, but...).
You could always justify it by saying that the two halves of the 6SN7 (6C/J5GT) are much cheaper than a top notch 6SN7...

"The ECC81 is a medium to high gain (μ approx 60) valve originally designed for RF applications as a mixer and has an anode impedance of 10,000 Ω. Also 12AT7, B152, CV455, B309, E2157 & E811CC. Special quality types are: M8162, 12AT7WA, 6060, CV4024 & QA2406".

I don't know why he doesn't mention 6201. I have a Philips 6201 SQ with pinched waist that is pretty spectacular.

Nothing wrong with sticking to the tubes an amp is designed for.

Hello @triod750 -

I have faithfully Attended Roll-aholics Anonymous, and have been cured.

Bought this amp because it was not a roller amp.

Designing for SL7 is not optimal for SN7 or vice versa. Know they look alike, pinout alike and make will make sound. But some serious internal specification differences when designing an amp specific for each one.

Really happy with the sound signature I have.

Not going buck wild, a-rollin 🎠

You will have to temp another addict 😊

Been there. done that!

Amp designed specifically for 6/12SL7. Not SN7 not 6J5 not 6CS.

Have used them previously in other amps. Are good, but Little Dot MK 9 not designed to make the best of them.

Nice try, @jonathan c - it is your turn to roll wild.
This old bean is dun wit dat…

You assume that your only potential roll involves tubes…
