Oh, I get to play here too. Just. The DP-60L's MSRP in 1981 was 90,000 Yen (~$1000).

Mine is currently using a DL-103.

Holy crap, there are some stunning tables here on Head-Fi!

^^ Welcome to Team High-End-Vintage-Denon-Turntables, Rik!!!

The DP-60L is a great, great deck. The 59L, 60L, 62L, 72L - these are some of the finest direct drive turntables every made. I sure love my 59L. Such a great sounding turntable, and especially good with a low output MC.

The DL-103 is a great cartridge for the money, and I still have one, but I recommend trying a nice Benz cartridge on your 60L - you will love the combo

Congrats.

Congrats.

Thanks Rob. I was really on the lookout for a DP 59L like you have, but couldn't find one. Then, I buy this, and on the same day a 59L pops up. Ah well, that's the way it goes.

I bought the 60L without a cartridge and still had the DL-103. It's fine for now, but I don't see it lasting more than a month or two. The problem is, this thing is already outperforming my CD player so there's an itch to upgrade that one too...

By 'nice Benz cartridge', I'm sure you have some more specific recommendation. Can't spend much more than a MC Gold or Silver though.

Well, I use a Wood L2 which is great but the current "S" version is $1500. But for price/performance, the best is the ACE. Great cartridge, and not horribly expensive at least ($600 I think).

Honestly, if you are not prepared to spend at least $600, I would stick with the DL103. It's a terrific cartridge and pretty much impossible to beat in the under $300 price range.

Basically, it is most likely the VPI outer ring is not "pure" stainless steel and the large outer magnets of the Benz Ruby makes it even more of an issue. VPI was very good and offer to have me send the ring in and they would send a replacement they would test to be sure I wouldn't have a problem with the Benz.

Still trying to get the outer ring and static resolved but finally received my TPI Acrylic Cover for the HRX in.

No digital here right now.
I am auditioning the BAT and SP preamps.
Table is VPI SuperScoutmaster signature, with heavy platter and Dynavector XX2 MKII cartridge.
Simaudio LP5.3 phono and optional PSX power supply.
BAT VK42se and SP balanced preamps.
Amps are Krell FPB650M monoblocks and my Thiel CS7.2 speakers.
Interconnects are Audioquest Skys and Audioquest Mont Blanc speaker cables.
Shunyata copperhead PCs. Its kind clustered up right now due to the switching around with the preamps.

. . . with a Kuzma Stabi S turntable/Stogi S tonearm and Soundsmith SMMC2 cartridge. The Soundsmith was on my Linn Axis/Akito 'till last Friday - nice sound, but the Kuzma kills it (as it should). The Linn will now go to my office with a Denon DL160 cartridge.

Cheers,
Larry
