Hi everyone.

My mother wants a pair of wired phones for watching TV and I'd like to help her with her choice.

This is what she's looking for.

  1. She doesn't want anything "squeezing her head", so closed cans are probably not an option.
  2. Anything heating the ears also bothers her.
  3. Light weight.
  4. Good detail for speech recognition.
  5. A volume control, so she doesn't have to turn the light on, pick up her reading glasses and look for buttons on the remote (on that TV set, once you have muted the speakers, the volume control does not affect the phones, but un-mutes the speakers instead --- what a shame!).
  6. She usually enjoys bassy cans.

I've seen Sennheiser 30 and 62 at the mall dedicated to TV, but are they any good?

Can she do better for not much more than 50 bucks?

I would say AD700, but like all hi-fi headphones doesn't come with a volume control, and is open, which means 'bassy' is not really an option. I have no idea how TV headphones sound.

These have a volume control.  If they're like the UR20s they won't squeeze hard at all.
