I found a way to end the drain with the newest update. Activate developer mode (settings—>system—>about DX 160 —> Build number (press repeatedly) and it will activate developer mode) enter your passcode/pattern if screen locked. Then go back one level to System folder and you should see “{ } Developer options.
In the Apps section, I toggled “Don’t keep activities” and opened Background check. There I turned off everything but the keyboard.
Now my battery lasts a lot longer while idle and the apps that I use still work fine. I do get a warning to turn on Google Services, but I just ignore it.
This has given my device much longer life and I won’t be upgrading it.
