I just googled V40 LGUP and got this thread on XDA:

https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/guide-lgup-for-all-no-root-needed.3967858/

I haven't read the thread, but it would appear that there is an LGUP version for V40.

LGUP is the software we use with V30, G7, G8 and other models to cross flash or update/rollback LG phones. It's what carriers and service centers use. It does NOT require root. But it does require a version of LGUP for each LG model (a DLL file unique to each model). And again it appears we have it for V40.

You can generally flash any firmware version as long as LG or the carrier releases a KDZ file containing that firmware. These are encrypted files with the authentic firmware. AT&T and Sprint do not release KDZ files, but TMO and VZ do. Following are the KDZs for V405TA uploaded to lg-firmwares.com.

LGUP is generally a solid tool, and not difficult to use at all. But it DOES have features to completely wipe the phone (including serial/IMEI and other critical info) from which one should simply stay away!

You should do some reading on XDA to familiarize yourself before flashing away :)
Not exactly a walk in the greens , I would not say it is painful but.. just alerting

While I don't have experience with V40, I've done lots and lots of LGUP flashing on different V30 models. It's pretty straightforward. But maybe circumstances are different with V40.

An important warning from V30 though, which I assume also applies to V40: Don't cross-flash TMO models. They use different encryption keys from the other models and cross-flashing will brick them.

I'm not arguing that anybody should or shouldn't do this. But if people are ready to throw out their V40 because it accidentally updated to 10, that's a good reason to learn how to use LGUP.

Believe me I have...I'm not super comfortable doing this process. It's a work phone mainly and I definitely don't want to brick it.

@Dannemand while it is not easy to brick , it is less easy and longer to learn then on v30 ( and fails can discourage ); there are many versions of LGUP and not all of them work with v40 .

Anyone who would want to try should start with this version https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dqa5Cqr1Uwp_b8ZaKBG31THo_io7h-aP/view which is v1.14 patched , easier then the command line ones and seemingly safer about not giving failures on some v40 variants ( also crossflash is not straightforward , depending on variants )

Hate 10...but not quite that extreme. Actually, in my case have a friend that is very interested in it as I still feel its the best V model made before they went comically large with the display (will get V50 arguments but 1st gen 5G sucks and too heavy at 20g more than V40)...

And there are places online where you can *still* get aV40 with Android 9 because that's what was originally on it from the factory.

But I can't sell my friend a brick :)

What have you all upgraded to smartphone-wise beyond the V40 for portable IEM listening purposes besides a dedicated DAP?

Nothing yet. Can't bring myself to part ways with it. Still have my 30 too.

Me too. Me too. As far as a smartphone goes I have upgraded to the Pocophone X3 Pro. It's got a 3.5mm jack so it'll do. I've got a ES100 for when it matters.

Still using V40 and will continue to do it. Just buy new battery for 13 usd when it's getting worn

Using a v30 here, and I have to be honest its a wonderful upgrade to my old iphone SE 2016. Its headphone jack is able to power my 150ohm buds with absolutely no flaws, and sounds wonderful.

I'm using a V40, but the volume down button is a bit stuck; if I push hard, it goes all the way to silent, can't fine tune with it. I'm thinking of getting a V60 to replace it (don't know of another audio-friendly phone out there)

I'm thinking about getting a V60 as well.

I've bought a Xperia 1 MK3.
It was, beside the loss of power for headphones, a worthwhile upgrade.
Soundwise it was a pleasant warming after the somewhat bright V30. :)

lg v40 or lg v30 for listening mostly electronic music

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe LG V30 was considered as a good sounding smartphone?
