I plan to buy this one mainly for the ldac, is it confirmed to be working without any issues? I have a walkman wm1a and it can be used as a bluetooth receiver and i use my iphone for streaming but unfortunately could only do AAC. I would like to take advantage of ldac so was wondering if this v20 would be a good buy thanks guys :)

This is an excellent LDAC platform. You must be running Oreo to get LDAC, but the BT radio handles LDAC up to the 990 bit rate with only a few hiccoughs.

Could you help me guys? I am thinking of buying an LG V20 H910 or V30 H931 but i am not sure which will give me better sound. I have heard that V30 has newer version of 9218P dac but i could not find any other model than 9218P on essabre page. V30 does support MQA which i do not use any way. I am also curious if i will have to use impedance adapter with my 32 ohm iems or if is it possible to change something in software to always have max output. Are there any other root audio tweaks i will have to do?

if you have the money, pick V30, for starters it has very good battery, better camera and newer android, it's fast and afaik better amping. Big plus for the display of V20 though, i find it better, it is brighter and has 16:9 ratio which is still widely spread. But being older, it will get slower once you update your apps, plus camera and battery are pretty weak.

Conventional thinking would lead you to believe that "latest firmware & software will surely improve sound". My recent experience with Neutron running on my old Nougat V20 that had provided fabulous audio. Unfortunately, Alphabet slipped in an upgrade to Oreo on me, and I lost FM radio (music files still sounded fine). Neither LG, Alphabet, nor TMobile could restore my radio, so I bought a new-in-box V30 with Nougat: I don't know whether to blame the new ESS DAC or later Neutron player, but audio doesn't sound as good in many ways [ I'll live with it for now, but occasionally fire up the old Oreo'd V20 on certain music ]

Oh: depending on you headphone, the impedance trick does a lot more for SQ than bump up volume. Rooting will likely open up many more opportunities [ I'm afraid of chancing a root ].

Oreo gives you LDAC. I use the Fiio EH3NC and it approaches wired quality. For my wired setup, using PowerAmp, I've run the ATH-MSR7NC, the VE Zen, Monk and Asura. All 150 ohm or over. I run local FLAC's and DSD's. I noticed no change in sound quality from Nougat to Oreo. I don't use terrestrial radio as I have a .5Tb sd card with many weeks of music. The replaceable battery is still the defining feature after the audio quality.

Im currently on unrooted nougat on my lg v20. I havnt updated because I fear an update might cause issues. Is it possible to go back to nougat after an update? Im having problems with 3g and 4g connectivity but I didnt for the first year of owning it. Trying to see if this gets fixed by updating would be my prime reason to do it.

How many of you who have updated from nougat have had issues and how many have only had good experiences updating?

If you're using it as a phone, too, you're probably best taking updates: I used it as a music player only, and updating will kill FM radio, since all carriers now want you to use data. I sent my Oreo'd V20 in to LG, and they told me "there's no going back" once the OS has been updated. If you don't care about FM, the V20 is a great sounding player. Aside from losing FM, I found no downside to the way the Oreo'd V20 updates work. What LightBlue said about uapp, too. I just happen to have a few stunning FM stations left in my reception area, whose audio on data isn't even close to airwaves.

BTW, pie is apparently now in the queue for the V20.

Btw...my v20 fm radio works perfectly.....it's on Sprint Oreo. Even the v40 fm radio works fine with Pie update. So not all carriers disable it. I have only tried Sprint myself.

The V20 has fantastic sound quality, so really it's not worth paying more for the v30. Yes the 30 has MQA, but you can get MQA with a paid addon for USB Audio Player PRO. I tried it and I didn't notice any difference. And I don't want to be bothered with MQA files anyway. The V20 is very easy to repair, the screen is inexpensive compared to V30 screen, you can pick up new battery for about 15euro, so I can't see how the v30 is better except maybe it looks nicer and and might be easier to handle in the hand with it's slimmer design. But for me v20 is better in every other way.

If you are able to bootloader unlock and root the fone, there is a software mod to enable always-on high impedance. I tried it and honestly I rather leave it the way it was designed. All of that stuff is on v20 XDA forum.

Honestly the V20 sounds fab will all kinds of files, even low bit rate streaming radio and mp3's. I won't be buying any high end desktop equipment now because it's just so good that paying more is just a waste of money imo.

Ditto for V20.

So how much SQ do you want when commuting or everyday use? With all the noise that surrounds you?

If SQ i want (during extended trips) i just plug-in my external DAC/Amp and cans for that purpose.

With dual SIM, a dedicated micro-sd (V990DS) and removable battery, FM radio, DAC/Amp, 3.5 mm socket. LG V20 is hard to beat for an everyday/commuting phone.

Ditto for UAPP as it extends the phone's capability on MQA aside from its usual internal/usb dac functions.
