I ordered a 75ohm adapter from eBay, just so I don't have to pop the left earpiece off the cable all the time. I'm hoping that'll work.

Since they're low impedance, they're not triggering the high gain mode for the amp. Try detaching the cable, plugging just the cable into the phone, then attaching the earphones. If you go into the Hi-Fi DAC settings it should then say "An external audio device is connected" rather than "Normal audio device"

Wait I have 10 ohm earphones without a detachable cable. Am i going to have this issue? How do i fix it?

I dont care for extra gain but i want the highest SQ i can get.

Really? I don't want that, but I'm worried about wearing out the connection on my earphones. I'll try it, see what I think.

Not sure that turning on high gain on low impedance will improve sound quality, maybe work on something else in the chain, like the earphones seal? Love your eardrums, lo volume fi ftw!

I know, I have it. I might not be using it properly, but I still have to pop the left bud off my Forte`s to get it into high output mode.

The DAC Fix app works to activate the ESS DAC on all apps, but it doesn't do anything in terms of getting high gain from the amp. An alternative for those who don't have detachable cables (or don't want to keep using that method) is a headphone jack extender. You just plug the extender into the phone first, then plug your headphones into the extender. Something like this works:

Ok so it really is only a gain change. I'm fine then I always use the lowest gain for my IEMs.

Loud or not it sounds better and more dynamic on high power.

I'm convinced the amp doesn't even turn on in normal mode which is why most can't hear any difference with just the dac on.

Yep, plug in the extension alone first, then plug your headphone in next. It will trick the phone into external audio mode
