LG V10 : New ESS Chipped Flagship Android Phone from LG

True, Poweramp drains battery faster but at about the same rate as Neutron. Both have a lot of extra processing going on to improve the sound. Imo, its worth the tradeoff unless you must conserve power (in which case you'd need to turn off the dac/amp too).

Even with the extra drain the V10 still has better battery life than most daps while giving up little (if any) sound quality. And that's with the cell radio on.

Guys! A VERY important new for you all V10 owners!

Right today I found THREE methods to bug the headphones / device detection, keeping the DAC in High Impedance mode even with low impedance headphones! (the IEMs showed on this photo are my Sony MDR-EX450 and their impedance is 40 Ohms!)

Immediately I recorded a video explaining the methods I found having success omn this task. To enjoy the full V10 DAC power withouth a jack extender it's just something... SO SUBLIME! I can't keep the maximum volume level for more than 5 seconds, and the Dynamic Range in so over powered in High Impedance mode!

Tomorrow, after school, I'll edit, render and (depending from how much free time I'll have) upload the video on my channel. Stay tuned on this thread or on my youtube channel (youtube.com/AngelHounds) to wait for the video release. The only problem is that I'll explaing how to do this... in italian. But of course you will see what I'm doing through the video and easily replicate those simple steps for your phone.

I found this "easter egg" (why not?) possibile by 'playing' with the auto detection and DAC activation of DAC Fix, the already well-known here free application you can get from the Google Play Store that unlocks the V10 DAC for all applications used on that phone.

Hope I'll be able to upload the video tomorrow, can't wait to show you how to trick the weak point of V10 software block regarding his amplifier!

V10, Arrived. First thing I did I bought poweramp, but I cannot find the folder view for music like people said it had.

Are there any high quality players with windows type folder view where I can choose folders and inside the folders will be my sorted music?

or should I switch back to this?

Did I misunderstood you?
There should be a "Folder" on the very top selection.

Try downloading the music folder player app and see if you prefer that instead...it's free and can't hurt to try.

By the way...congrats on getting the V10!

Sounds good, yes please upload that video.

I'm doing some listening right now, testing to see the battery drain from Poweramp Alpha. It went from 63% to 24% during the course of listening to one album last night. Maybe it was a fluke or maybe something else was draining it. I just put a fresh 100% charged battery in, which also of course means the phone was just started up. Poweramp Alpha and the DAC anytime app are the only two apps I started on this fresh boot. I realize other apps will start on their own, but this is all I started myself.

If it consistently drains like it did last night then I'll be going back to the stock LG music player app. The extra maybe 5% increase in SQ won't be worth the battery draining THAT fast. I measured the battery drain to be about 3% an hour on the stock player with flac files.

I started playing an album at 6:20 with a 100% charge. We'll see what happens this time.
-It's now 6:58 and it's at 98%. I think with a full charge the battery meter isn't all that accurate near 100% though. There have been times where I've seen it go 4 hours (mostly idle just sitting in my pocket) before dropping to 99% from full.

Another issue I don't like is that with Poweramp and the DVC option enabled you can no longer control the volume in increments of 1, only increments of 5. This will be a problem when using my HM5. It is so sensitive than at one point it'll be too quiet and the next increment of 5 will be too loud. With this headphone I very much like using it in increments of 1 or 2.

So it's not just me. I discovered the volume increment issue with the DVC option also. Steps of 5 is just too big, especially for my MA750's, so I've been keeping DVC disabled. I haven't noticed any outrageous battery drain with Poweramp personally, but I'll be interested in your results.

It is true, at least on the latest build. I'm not sure if it is something that can be fixed, or if it is just the way it has to be, but it alone may be a deal breaker for me. I want to ask on the Poweramp forum, but I'm having an issue logging in there. I reset my password and I know for sure that I'm typing it in correctly but it's not letting me in. With DVC disabled the volume is lowered quite a bit, which I'm not ok with either.

I really wish Android or LG would make it so that every press of one of the volume buttons would be an increment of 2, maybe at least when the hifi DAC is enabled. Or maybe at the very least have the volume when the hifi DAC enabled go to 100 instead of 75, which would give is 5 more increments of 5. Having only 15 steps of volume on a high end device is just crazy. I know Apple also has been doing the same things all this time, and I really don't know why more people don't complain about this. Don't most DAPs have a lot more adjustment in their volume controls?

So far the battery drain doesn't seem that excessive right now during this session. Maybe last night was a fluke. From experience with this phone so far I do know that the battery meter isn't the most accurate at full charge or near it. I'd be ok with about 5% drain an hour or less, with the screen of 99% of that time but with cellular and wifi and all the normal stuff still on. If the stock app only drains it 2-3% an hour under the same conditions then anymore than double that is just too much in my opinion.

I agree entirely, 15 steps is not nearly enough. On most Android phones if you're rooted it is possible to use Xposed to get more volume steps, but I've found this doesn't work correctly on the V10, probably because LG has already made adjustments to get 75 steps with Hifi DAC. I do wish the smaller steps were adjustable directly with volume button, rather than having to activate the screen to use the smaller increments. I'm hoping this is changed on a future update.

Well, an hour and 5 minutes later it's at 95%. 12 minutes of screen on time because I had to answer a couple texts and select a new album after the first one was over. Not terrible, but not impressive either compared to testing I've done with the stock app. I'll continue, and see what happens.

In the battery settings both Poweramp and the DAc fix app are 2nd and 3rd on the list of what is killing the battery. I wonder if the DAC fix app itself is actually draining the battery too, or if it really isn't, but is just showing up like it is. The adblock app I use does this same kind of thing. It creates a VPN so it shows all data being transmitted to and from the phone in this app since it is all being routed through the app, or at least android thinks that it is. The app itself causes no extra battery drain, but it just shows that it does. So maybe all audio is showing up as being routed through the DAC fix app in the same kind of manner. I know having the hifi DAC on should cause a little bit more drain than having it off, but the app itself forcing the hifi DAC on may or may not actually cause the drain itself.

I guess anything is possible, but I just highly doubt it. It's been this way since android first came out however long ago it's been now. Giving us an option in the Android settings would be an even smarter idea so that the people who don't care can leave it as is, but let us audiophiles have all the adjustments we want. I'm all about having options.

Oh I definitely don't expect any changes to the implementation in basic Android, Google is obviously fine with 15 steps, but since LG has already sort of gone halfway in implementing the increments in the volume slider for the V10, I figure there's at least some chance that they'll add the option for more steps in the hard volume button too

I thought Poweramp did not have full folder browsing as well but I found how to do it (then forgot and spent 30min finding it again). Don't know why they made it so complicated to access (nor is there any manual or tutorial) but try these steps:

1. On the main screen, touch the menu bar at top left.

2. Then touch Folders.

3. Next touch the three dots at the lower right of the screen.

4. Then select List Options.

5. Now scroll down and select to view folders as hierarchy. You can also choose whether to display each song within folders by filename or via different tag info.

Close the menus and you should now be able to browse up and down through subfolders.

We can hope. The best way would definitely be some kind of extra setting to let us choose how fine we want the control to be, and not to force a change on everyone. It does seem that LG could do this, but if we are the only two people complaining, and LG doesn't know we are complaining then we have a very slim chance of it happening.

I really miss this function.
