Gotta say-any Dad-that will withstand the sonic assault of a  Nile show has some serious cajon...er, you know what I'm trying to say. Back in the day, I would not have dared asked my old man to take me to a say, Metallica, Priest or Slayer show. Your Dad  rocks. Or, maybe he has not idea what he's in store for......he, hee

Nah he's gonna be fine, he know the music I listen to and he's fine with listening some metal with me from time to time, plus he says he thinks he would enjoy it more live. I think I'll end up going to the Nile gig...

Awesome! I got to see Mastodon open for Metallica in 2010 and have to admit I probably enjoyed them more than the main show

I feel really stupid. I never got around to listening to the new Weapon album. Man they never disappoint:

Da Red Moose I think posted it first, but they are so awesome.

This might sound bad to some but Come Clarity is my favorite In Flames, I think.

I need to run through their discog again to make sure, but it's the album that got into them and it seems to be the one that always sucks me back in. It's a little whiny, but it's sooo good.

You've really gotta hear the early stuff dude, it's SO MUCH BETTER than anything they've done post Clayman. Jester, Whoracle, Colony. MDM classics all.

For the more well versed Metal heads out there...What's your favorite Dark Tranquility album? I own Haven on vinyl but I think Character is my favorite (by a wide margin).

Gonna pick up Character again soon and am wondering if there's anything else I should snag from their catalog.

Good question. I have The Mind's I through Void. It took me awhile to come around to Projector, but I like it now. Damage Done is definitely great, as is Character, but I think my favorite overall is Fiction. Really enjoyed the hell out of that. By the way, I HIGHLY recommend DT's Where Death Is Most Alive DVD. It captures just an incredible live performance, particularly from Mikael Stanne. The audience isn't just singing along, the ones in front are singing into his mic with him. You just don't see that, at least not with a band that big with an audience that size. There's also a really funny moment of a hot Italian girl doing a death growl. You can't hear her, but the camera cuts to her and you see her face with Stanne's voice in the background.

A SS copy of Fiction on vinyl is dirt cheap and definitely worth getting.

Talking about childhood importance, I had Cruelty and The Beast Audio Cassette and loved it. But never really bothered to check out the others.

I think that's awesome. I just meant you have a cool dad!

Hey, I got to shout out for all the old rockers out there, being one myself. Over 45 and still loving metal....only difference, I can chill w/ more mellow stuff than I did in my teens and 20's

And on that note:

If you loved Deathspell's Omega Drought but want something a bit more death than black, you HAVE to check out the new release by ODEM, The Valley of Cut Tongues.

Check out the Bandcamp page for a listen.

My review on Metal-Fi

This EP is a BEAST! I think I may have found my favorite EP of 2013 already.

i know i'm a little late to this game, but i'd never actually heard of them before, your review intrigued me to pick up a copy of their 2010 release (rape your god and pray for reprieve)
brutal stuff!  i'll be grabbing that EP when it arrives!

as for CoF and the discussion at hand....never been a fan although i wouldn't say i dislike any of their stuff..  i have Dusk... and Midian, Dusk is definitely the better album by far.  maybe i'll pick up some of their older junk and give it a listen!
