Never liked them to be honest (except for few songs).
But someone recomended to me KEN Mode - "kinda like angrier old Mastodon". I checked them out out of curiousity, and I really liked them. Anyone into them, too?

This one would be one of my fav instrumentals if the vocals didn't actually start in the end... :)

This is actually awesome. I love how angular the riffs sound, the dirty guitar production, the busy drums and the pissed off vocals. My boyfriend misses old, pissed off Mastodon, and I think will really appreciate this band. Thanks!

EDIT: Wanted to respond with some awesome sludge as well. More straightforward and groovy but just as filthy (Purely instrumental):

Bergtatt is one of my favorite albums of all time. "Capitel V: Bergtatt - Ind i Fjeldkamrene" is just so amazing. Too bad at what they turned into. I liked Themes from William Blake's The Marriage of Heaven and Hell a lot and some songs from Perdition City but after that it's just so disappointing IMO.

I have always had a varied taste in music so maybe this won't work? Take 2007s Shadows Of The Sun to the beach or some hillside remote location with some friends and listen?

In The Silence - Atmospehric, Doomy , clean vocals, Katatonic

This is the closest Katatonia clone that I have found so far and hence reposting, if anyone missed this before.

Shadows of the Sun needs time. It's beautiful but so minimal that one-time-listening doesn't do it justice.

You guys post some really great stuff up in here. It's nice to see that it isn't all Whitechapel, Chelsea Grin, or Thy Art Is Murder. I just recently acquired The Great Mass by Septicflesh and am totally blown away by it. What do you all think of it? Also, I stumbled across some band from Japan that plays some totally badass Black Metal. I've been trying to order the CD for the last week but have been unable to get in touch with the band, boo.

I have a varied taste in music (not just the different sub genre's of metal either

) but newer Ulver is too weird and I like weird music. It just doesn't do anything for me.
