I've immersed myself putting together a list of audiophile quality demo cuts for gear-for a weekend demo at my house. Seems simple, but as I started going through music there was a lot of music to think about.
One of the good things has been listening to some great music I haven't heard in a while. For something pretty heavy but not full on BM/DM, I decided on Kreator's Phantom Antichrist. In terms of balls out good sounding thrash-this is a pinnacle for me. It's a great album that's heavy, melodic and sounds great.
This is the title cut video
One of my favorite tracsk from the album is Civilization Collapse. It sounds good on my system, but a little strained if I really want to crank it. My system is just a little too polite and doesn't quite have the heft and epic size I'd like. I figure a good system this song will roar.
Listening through some of my post metal like Cult of Luna and Isis (Panopticon), I decided to relisten to the great 2013 Russian Circles album, Memorial. Not exactly metal-but close-and I'd forgotten what a great album this is. As good as any of my older Pelican stuff. I think this is a great example of terrific sounding heavy post rock. But, you need to listen to this album on some decent equipment:
This music is fairly recent. Let's see, what was I listening to five years ago? Hmmmm.....I need to back and listen to more of my back catalog more often!

Been listening to 2005s Enemy Of God over and over this week. Then I see a Kreator post!
Not only do the last three albums sound great, they are fun as heck to listen too. They are our modern day Thrash masters. Kicking myself in the but for not seeing them live after my brother purchased me a ticket. He finally saw them two years later, and was amazed how the most of audience knew every word to all the songs.
