This is the most hidden gem-ish album out of all the hidden gem albums I know.
Phenomenal Prog Death/Black Metal full of really neat ideas and great instrumental parts.
This album is a concept album based on 2001: A Space Odyssey which is one of my absolute favorite movies :)
Also hammond organ ♥

The album closes with an awesome 11 minute long instrumental song which is not on YouTube...

Here's a video that's just out. Very much related to the discussion I spotted going on here recently.

Guys, I can't get enough of Vainaja's debut LP. I'm fairly virgin to the death-doom scene. Do you guys have any recommendations for something like Vainaja, pure heavy death-doom with a keen sense of rhythm that borders on being anthemic, or even catchy? And I also love me a production with a ton of weight behind it.

Rattenfänger!

  Who else likes Moonspell?

They're my favorite gothic metal band, and the only Portuguese band I know. (I'm 25% Portuguese.)

I did, but that was when Wolfheart and Irreligious came out. It must be at least 15 years ago since I last heard them and I have no idea if they stood the test of time...

My favorite Portugese band is Process of Guilt. Faemin is stuperb. Seriously, just the wait for that first snare hit is worth buying the album. No gothic to be found though...

Rattenfanger sounds excellent! Vastrum as well, but Rattenfanger was spot on. Thanks!

Cool. Glad you like 'em.

Death-doom is tricky. I find it very hard to find bands that are actually good at it (which is why I was already struggling at my second recommendation..). I usually make do with a playlist of mid-tempo tracks from death metal bands to get my death-doom fix...

I do know a couple more bands that you might find interesting, but none of them fits your preferences (or mine) as close as Rattenfänger. I can post them in the weekend if you like. Have to work now and after that it's straight on to Tilburg to have my bones rattled by Conan and High on Fire.

I like their newer albums much more than the old ones.

A few tracks I like: Nocturna, First Light, Night Eternal, Upon The Blood Of Men, Dreamless (Lucifer And Lilith), Firewalking, Lustmord.

They re-recorded their oldest material and released it as Under Satanæ in 2007.
