New “live” Swallow The Sun.
Dropped three weeks ago but this reminded me to put it on..😊

I love this band. Not super keen on live albums in general, but this one sounds good, I'm now at the third song. 🤘

The sound of it.
It’s one of the top “best sounding” live albums I’ve heard in awhile!

I had forgotten how good the original (SotN I,II,III) 2015 release they played in the beginning acoustically? Then they used the audience song “poll” to gather the rest of the material to play.

Songs from the North-I,II,III is amazing live!

What three weeks old is still new? Lol

Yes, I listened to the whole thing. Great live album indeed. I saw the SotN performed live across three performances, back in the day..

1. At The Gates : “Slaughter Of The Soul” (1995)

Gosh, I’m not familiar with 11 of the bands. Petty sure that In Flames is my all time favorite too? I sincerely love that album, play it regularly! At The Gates has been so revolutionary as the first Gothenburg Sound. I have the old Earache CD, though I guess there is a full-dynamic range remaster released 08/09/2014? (Have not heard the remaster) Though I almost never play the original CD, I played it 12 years ago? Lol

Never play that Dark Tranquility either? Basically that’s not the Amon Amarth I go to, nor have anything from The Haunted?

I’m working my way to that Insomnium album, and the rest except for Soilwork unknown to me. Except for “The Unborn” which we talked about already. All and all it shows I’m maybe not a fan of Melodic, or Metal as a genre is way way bigger than can be grasped by one person? Probably both factors in my case?

Another thing I noticed is Mors Principium Est /The Unborn is from 2005 and Insomnium 2002, yet everything else is from 2000 or older. As a genre I guess your saying its best years have already taken place!

Many thanks for the list. Like @Redcarmoose, there are quite a few bands I don't know, and I think I know metal pretty well... always realizing that there is much more to explore.. This makes the list more interesting for me, as it provides new hints of what to check out next.

I am curious how you assemble your lists? What criteria? Or just gut feel? Did you specifically look for less well known bands/albums?

A list is always objective, but these are albums that I have listened lot of Time and that I have compared to albums or other more recent bands. These are albums that will accompany me for a long time and which will remain examples for me to follow. I started listening to extreme metal in 1995. I'm 1980, so it's youth and my teenage years so obviously it's precious and everlasting.
