Thanks for sharing. Great list. A few I have never heard of that I will need to check out. Looks like this list went beyond "mainstream metal" into the stuff that is actually important in new metal today.
That's a really thoughtful intro essay too. I don't agree with Nelson's reasoning for leaving out the Metallica album, which he loved, just because of some quote from the band about how they don't like talking about politics. Plenty of other bands on his list may be just as guilty of that, but do not have high profile interviews to point it out. At least he explains himself.
Nice to see both Dawnbringer and High Spirits on there.

Yes, I'm reminded how good their lists have been last few years. I read the entire commentary....interesting take on the genre. I didn't realize the editor used to worke for Invisible Oranges which adds merit to the quality of their lists when he was there. I Also didn't realize Brandon Stosuy left Pitchfork. I was wondering why Pitchfork wasn't doing a list-a list I usually go through with a fine toothed come. I'm going to miss that year-end report-always very thoughtful, articulate and well written. Bummer.
Of all the lists, this has given me the most end of year albums to listen to. The list grows!
Wow. Jute Gyte is the complete opposite of accessible. Gotta give this guy credit for originality. The rawness and weirdness reminds me of Ildjarn too.

They also have tags for these, but you can't combine it with genre tags.

Just discovered Sithu Aye. "Instrumental, progressive metal, djent, jazz fusion"...interesting. Some of 'em are free.
Gojira, in particular the album Magma. Got a ticket to see them next year. Low Lands has a wonderful almost out of time drum beat and atmospheric vocals.
Typically, when counting down a top ten to build up the suspense, it starts from 10 and ends with #1, the winner. If you do it from 1 to 10, but with 10 being the winner, the numbers don't make sense. I've never seen an awards show that does it the way you did. Just sayin'.
