I know I already posted my metal list earlier, but I think some of you will appreciate this. Spent all week on it (not to mention the thousands of listening hours and some of the full length reviews I did throughout the year), enjoy!

Yep, Crippled Black Phoenix is #67 on my list above, and #6 in Avant Rock. Great band, a mix of prog and post-rock from former Electric Wizard & Iron Monkey member Justin Greaves.

Man, that sure is a fantastic list. Some of those are on my own list that I am currently drafting and posting next week at Nine Circles.

For me, the biggest out of the blue surprise of the whole year (alongside Setentia's instant classic) was - or rather, will be - the absolutely bonkers debut by Youdash that is out this Friday. A bizarre variant of progressive tech death influenced by the likes of Car Bomb, Gojira, Meshuggah and... Naked City and Mr Bungle. It is unlike anything else this year (Car Bomb comes close but is quite restrained relative to Youdash which says a lot). Definitely an acquired taste, but utterly insane with an endless supply of curveballs and a confident swagger. Based on your list, you might enjoy it.

You know, one of the great thing about these lists is I continue to be reminded of additional albums and kind of reshuffling albums in my mind. And, I've been finding these gems towards the end of the year that I either passed on or flew under my radar.

Case in point, after reading a number of lists, I've been digging Oathbreaker over the past couple of days. Man, how did I sleep on this one. Over and over. There is just a mind boggling amount of tremendous heavy music, more than anyone can keep track of. While some lament the early 90's heyday of classic OSDM and second wave BM, IMO, this is a great time to be into heavy music.
