Never heard of that band before and when you said "power metal" i thought "Manowar".......

But I love that tune, even if the vocalist sounds like a better version of James Hetfield.....

Theres another 160 songs on that playlist I need to plough(aka skim)thru, but I gotta go dinner now.

Folk/Pagan/Black metal, some MeloDeath and apparently Power Metal is what i like.

Appreciate the help!

I'm letting the playlist play and saved the link for later. Power metal is very pleasant to listen to!

  I mean what is nsdm?

You didn't see the reply linking to the Wikipedia article on NSBM? It's National Socialist black metal.

I think Hate Forest is just associated with NSBM because they're in Ukraine. If you're a black metal band in that country, you tend to get lumped in with that scene. But if anyone can link me to evidence that they are indeed an NSBM band, I'll believe it when I see it. I know they're nationalists, but that's completely different from being neo-Nazis...lol.

So sadly the only song i found in a 162 song playlist of "power metal" that I actually liked was the one i posted...the rest, not so much.

im currently surfing "viking metal" playlists and have found several songs and bands i like...Manegarm and Bifrost (and some old Bathory) to name a couple.

What im finding using the search term "viking metal" is that some bands have clean vocals, others like Skyforger do not.Id like to find more like these with mainly clean vocals(I can deal with some death growls). Is there another term I can use to weed out 100% death growl bands?

That's a shame. I liked every track I heard on it.

Since you know you like folk black metal, here's some from that playlist I linked earlier.

Kroda: Cry To Me, River... (Betrayal Of Knjaz Volodymir), Pathways Of Fate, Funeral Of The Sun
Drudkh: Furrows Of Gods, Summoning The Rain, Glare Of Autumn
Nokturnal Mortum: Goat Horns, On The Moonlight Path, Valkyrie, Carpathian Mysteries, My Journey To The Stars [Burzum cover]
Agalloch: Our Fortress Is Burning... II - Bloodbirds

Agalloch I know, like and own already, same goes for Amorphis, which I assume is considered to be of a similar genre.

However using Viking metal im getting this, which I like:

Lumped in with this, which I do not like, and hear zero similarity between the two.

Is there a better term to use for searching?

Let me know what you think of the Kroda tracks. They're my favorite folk black metal band.

Skyforger is folk black metal while Unleashed is death metal. The problem is, Viking metal is a vague term that can mean various things. I try to avoid using it entirely.

Yeah. I've seen some arguments about Viking metal. Some insist it's more about the origin of the metal and bands like Burzum and Bathory are the template, others that Amon Amarth and bands that use the Viking mythos and aesthetic are what makes it.

I listened to both Kroda and Drudkh last night...not my thing....

Funny your source calls Skyforger Folk Black metal, while their videos refer to them as "Latvian Pagan Metal"

"Vague" doesnt begin to describe the utter confusion going on w/ metal it seems...trance suffers from the same problem of over simplifying different sounding bands and calling them the same thing...but metal is MUCH worse...

So frustrating to try and learn new stuff and nobody can agree on a simple sub-genre.

I read an article about NWOBHM and they listed Motorhead as a "founding father",then referenced Def Leppard.

Sorry,,but just because bands are from Britain doesnt make them the same.

And I consider neither band part of NWOBHM.

Technically, Metal Archives lists them as pagan/folk black metal. However, pagan metal is another vague descriptor that could mean practically anything. As far as I can tell, pagan metal is just a folk metal subgenre...or something. It's another term I avoid.

Lemmy would 100% agree with you.

Well to be fair they probably meant more in terms of Motörhead being godfathers, key influencers of certain NWOBHM bands that have clearly cited them as an influence. Def Leppard will deny being part of it, yet they were right there, playing alongside Iron Maiden and the others in the workingmen's clubs. Their first demo and On Through The Night is part of it, even if they were soon pursue their roots in glam like Sweet.

I actually like early Def Leppard, but like you said they went SO the opposite way quickly.

And for the record The Sweet was awesome!

I looked the band up and it's listed as power/melodic death metal. I think you're better off ignoring viking/pagan descriptions, because they don't tell you what genre it is.

A really great melodic death/power metal band is Children Of Bodom. This album is a must-hear.
