Lets Talk Metal

Everyone has seen this right? I don't remember seeing it here. I can't make up my mind. I really want the collector's edition one, but by the time I make up my mind it'll probably be gone. Hnnnnggghhhh. Just linking it here lowers my chances...

I guarantee you will love and hate some of it. Just be prepared to copy/paste into YouTube or wherever else, 'cause I'm only gonna make a list of tracks. I would recommend copying it into a text file for ease of access, so you can listen at your leisure. Naturally, feel free to skip tracks you have already heard.

Right on! Thanks, dude!

That's expensive as heck!

But there are only 500 copies, so I guess it ain't too bad...for the moment. (The aftermarket is sure to take advantage of this.)

I've always loved collecting rare stuff. It's a fascinating hobby. It saddens me when I miss out on something I'll probably never find again.

Right on! Thanks, dude!

Since this is taking so much effort anyway, I ended up gathering quality links for you, so you can just click each song and press play. (But bear in mind that CDs, lossless downloads, and some music streaming memberships have better sound quality.) Still workin' on it...but it should be ready sooner than expected. (Not busy right now.)

For anyone remembering Weapon's amazing 2012 release Embers and Revelations?

How did I miss that Nokturnal Mortum and Graveland released a split four months ago?

Looks like Snorre W Ruch AKA "Thorns" is not having an official live album release this year as expected. Something about an issue with the label, though Ruch is apparently OK, with the release still coming out as a bootleg.

Thorns being an important release as it has been the only full LP for Ruch after being incarcerated for driving the getaway car for Burzum after the knife murder of Euronymous.

Only Thorns I ever got was this reissue.

I remember reading Varg's account of that incident. Crazy stuff.

So you know about this?

You HAVE to listen to his album. The EP with Emperior is fine. As I continue to explore Black Metal guitar it takes me to the direct influences and new output, like Master's 2012 release. The album Embers and Revelations is a pure artifact of guitar style carried on by Mayhem with Rune Eriksen after both Varg and Ruch were in jail.

They created a sound. It is also in Ruch's early bootlegs which I have not heard but know of.

Yeah. It's on their Bandcamp too. I got the prior compilation when it came out in 2004.

Listening to the new Drudkh (shared it a few posts back) now. It's decent. You may recall that Drudkh, Astrofaes, and Hate Forest are kinda (but not really) the same band.

The EP is a slight return to form for Drudkh, I guess. Though I see Nokturnal Mortum as an ever evolving band which will never ever go back but only forward. You said they have an actual new LP to come out soon?

That will be interesting as the last full LP was a long time ago?

Yes. They've been working on it for years.

Speaking about our material for the split release. Basically this is experimental work, that’s why there is no sense to draw parallels between it and our next full-length “Verity” (this is more accurate translation of “Істина” title, than “The Truth”). As you could notice, all our records are different, and we shall keep the same approach in the future. At the same time with “Verity” we work on long experimental EP entitled “Біль” (“Hurt”) and still think in what order we will release these two records. We divided the material on principle of lyrical subjects, which influenced the music itself.

I noticed today that the remaster of The Voice Of Steel sounds so different from the original that it almost seems like a different recording...but in a bad way, IMO.

If you get Thorns, get the newer 2011 rerelease with two extra songs.

That release was suggested right here in this thread after I expressed my love for the original Mayhem guitar sound.

So finally I found "Thorns" and I'm amazed by it.

It does bring up questions though. As what would have happened if Varg had not murdered Euroymous? We can only wonder.
