Lets Talk Metal

The world needs more blackened thrash metal bands. Stuff is killer. The speed and intensity of thrash combined with the ugliness of black metal. It's new to me and sounds really fresh. Blackened crust and doom, like Plebian Grandstand and Coffinworm, fit the bill too.

I'm sure you're already familiar with Absu and Dragonlord, which are two examples I listen to.

But I like blackened death metal (or whatever you want to call it) like Behemoth and Zyklon more.

Oh, and let's not forget about the melodic death/thrash metal band Dimension Zero! (Featuring ex-In Flames members.)

Yeah, I'm not too big a fan of Absu. I just don't like their sound, like it's too clean or something. Plus they have some weird progressive moments that don't seem to fit the genre in my opinion. I just looked at some threads on MA forum with lots of recommendations. I'll check out your links too, thanks.

I just checked this one

Massive lists like that are hard to get good recommendations from. I'm sure there are some good bands in there, but most likely a huge percentage of them suck.

Yeah, true. On both points. And Dragonlord is a little too much like Cradle Of Filth sometimes, but with some awesome moments. I guess this link is the best I can do for ya, since I'm not all that knowledgeable about black/thrash bands myself.

This band has a few stand-out albums within that genre:

Also they apparently hire strippers to do whatever strippers do at their concerts. Maybe they spin around poles at the rate of the picking speed.

I gave Nocturnal Breed a try once and wasn't too impressed, but I listened for only a few minutes and probably wasn't in the mood. Giving it a listen right now and that track is really good. Shoot, the album's only $3.66 on BC right now due to Agonia's September sale. I might have to get it. https://agoniarecords.bandcamp.com/album/fields-of-rot

Another band I ought to pay more attention to is Skeletonwitch.

Here's some old school death doom goodness. Nice and slow to mid paced with really great riffs.

I think the Absu album called "Abzu" is a great starting point. That or the album "Absu" which came just before it?
