So you think it's worth a try even though they're in 5 pieces?

A company would go broke if it did not have an excellent product with a lifetime warranty.

KIa probably uses the consumer as research and development on there drive train. 
Monster with its first generation dynamic speakers, is for sure making money on every pair it ships.  There one time replacement policy is a way of reducing there liability, and giving the first owner a chance to re-coup some of there costs by selling the second pair. 
Koss probably has an excellent product with very inexpensive cost of manufacture.  It only goes to one person, and they know how many they can expect to be lost or stolen, and how few people will actually go through the hassle of returning stuff.
