I dont think my sound card has any output capacitors related to the op-amp.I mean on the actual board, there is no capacitor around the headphone opamp.there are 2 caps around the the line-in connector.

Can i mod this sound card by adding some components or something ? I am an electronics n00b.i know nothing.

You're right, should've looked at the pics for the Live! 24-Bit again. No 'lytics at the outputs indeed. Maybe the PSU dependent SNR I encountered has its roots here.

If (ElectronicsNoob) then

As for an easy way to implement an analog EQ for the '805, well, no more ideas than what I'd already written. I'm no expert on EQ networks...

A note on the SHP805's bass: These cans can hit pretty hard, and since covering the earcups does not change anything there they seem to operate as semi-closed.

Here's my latest Shibatch Super EQ setting:
Code:

Code:
[left]0 3 5 6 5 2 1 1 2 0 1 0 2 3 4 5 5 6 0 0 3 5 6 5 2 1 1 2 0 1 0 2 3 4 5 5 6 0[/left]

EDIT: Or so I thought.
biggrin.gif

Code:

Code:
[left]0 3 5 6 5 3 2 1 2 0 1 0 2 3 4 5 5 6 0 0 3 5 6 5 3 2 1 2 0 1 0 2 3 4 5 5 6 0[/left]

Keep in mind that Z_out ~= 150 ohm and I'm not a

.

BTW, ]|[ GorE, how do you like 'em EQ'd?

sgrossklass,i love the eq.thanks a lot for that. They sound very similiar to my bookshelves after the eq.
So if i were to attach the hp805 via my 100 ohm impedance adapter, how would that help ?

You are my new best friend on head-fi !

Looks like it pays off to have a number of different cans, even if few of them are truly high-end
biggrin.gif
. One would also hope that different implementations of "high fidelity" show some convergence tendencies - at least tonal balance is something that can be agreed upon, even with headphones. (Which is not to say that everyone will like their sound dead-neutral, Grados (and other good but decidedly colored cans) aren't popular for no reason - cans in particular are very personal stuff and this reflects there. Possibly a dead-flat headphone wouldn't even be all that much fun.)
I should really get a mic for measurements one of these days. Would be great if I could use the same thing together with cans for some terrific telephone SQ
biggrin.gif
- our DECT cordless phone quickly loses reception in my room anyway, so I have to stay near the door, and at least one of my comps has an ISDN card, and if I'm not mistaken the audio should be uncompressed 8 kHz 8-bit PCM (OK, probably with nonlinear quantization) which should have no real restrictions in terms of <200...300 Hz response (which is what really makes the difference from telephone SQ to AM radio SQ, apart from dynamic compression which is applied heavily for AM). OK, the ISDN cabling would still have to be connected properly, the mic better work decently when attached directly to a Live! 24-Bit or DMX XFire 1024, and I'm only taking a call once in a blue moon, but hey, it'd sure be fun...

Pretty much not at all, I'd say. If anything, you'd get a bit more midbass.

I really hang out here too much though. Setting priorities in favor of the stuff that should be more important in the long run (i.e. my studies) still isn't one of my great strengths...

But then, with such a nice, civilized forum...

Same EQ as b4, but for Foobar2000 (.feq):
Code:

Code:
[left]-3 -5 -6 -5 -3 -2 -1 -2 0 -1 0 -2 -3 -4 -5 -5 -6 0[/left]

Conversion Shibatch Super EQ .eq -> Foobar2000 EQ .feq:
0. EQ must be identical for both channels. Parametric settings can't be kept.
1. Remove settings for 2nd channel.
2. Remove 1st number (preamp gain).
3. Replace spaces by line breaks (0D 0A).
4. Prefix numbers with -, as the fb2k EQ allows adjustments in both directions. Possibly exclude 0, doesn't make a difference though.

YAEQS (Yet another EQ setting
tongue.gif
):
Code:

Code:
[left]0 4 6 6 5 3 2 1 2 0 1 0 2 3 4 5 7 5 0 0 4 6 6 5 3 2 1 2 0 1 0 2 3 4 5 7 5 0[/left]

Review on headphonereviews.org (originally written a week ago) has been updated, too.

/note to self: pm ]|[ GorE when (!tired)

EDIT: Looks like I prefer the previous EQ again now. This one isn't bad either though.

US + Philips HP8xx = pretty much no go.
(AFAIK at least.)
Back in the days when HP890s were FOTM, people used to import these from somewhere, but I doubt the associated cost would be worth it for the '805. Maybe not even the '895, given current HD555 pricing.

YAEQS, part 1...
Code:

Code:
[left]0 3 5 6 5 3 2 1 2 0 1 1 3 4 4 5 6 6 0 0 3 5 6 5 3 2 1 2 0 1 1 3 4 4 5 6 6 0[/left]

...and part 2:
Code:

Code:
[left]0 3 5 6 5 3 2 1 2 0 1 2 4 5 5 5 6 6 0 0 3 5 6 5 3 2 1 2 0 1 2 4 5 5 5 6 6 0[/left]

Or what about part 3?
Code:

Code:
[left]0 3 5 6 5 3 2 1 2 0 1 2 4 5 5 5 6 7 0 0 3 5 6 5 3 2 1 2 0 1 2 4 5 5 5 6 7 0[/left]

And last but not least, part 4:
Code:

They'd probably do a decent job keeping your ears warm in winter (though I wouldn't want to run around outside with big and comparatively fragile cans), but being open cans, they don't offer much isolation at all.
