I'm surprised no mentions of dynamic driver produces vocal textures and planars not so much. Scooped mid tuning may not be best for vocal textures. Possibly a 10mm dynamic would have been better than 6mm on the symphony. But I am just guessing.

Yes, because I'm a high volume listener, so more than +8db pinna gain from neutral point will be perceived as shouty high mids for me caused by fletcher Munson curved than often explained by @baskingshark
At some volume level point, the pinna gain area will be perceived louder more than other frequencies as volume increase so the +7 or +8db is my sweet spot.

The AS24 in default is very high mids focused. I haven't play with many switch combination nor I have measured them so my based on @paulwasabii and @baskingshark graphs, I just put wild guess with 0111 on main switches which activated sub bass and mid bass increase to balance the high mids and 0011 on auxiliary switch to boost the trebles.

So with this combination in my very limited time with the AS24, they sounded more balanced but still the high mids take the lead. But even with this condition (not perfect tonality for me), honestly the AS24 sounded refine with great technicalities especially on details, instrument separation and imaging. The soundstage isn't particularly very wide nor the depth but they do show "layering" positioning where I never heard with sets below $300.

Even with the flaws that I found in short time as they do have BA timbre, or not so deep sub bass, I'm pretty confidence to put the AS24 in best of KZ IEMs together with PR2 (i mod them, and i never heard PR3).

I will measure them later when I got plenty of time since the switches are a lot and I suspect KZ also dampen them with similar nylon filter on the nozzle like castor and PR series too (white colored nylon filter) but I doubt I can stuff cotton or foam since they have sound tubes on the nozzle, current best bet for mod is playing with covering only mids area tube or double it with mesh / tanchjim filter on mids tube.

About ZES, only few KZ using this bigger 12mm driver aside from ESX and this ZES and the giant driver is more impactful than other KZ bass DD. That's why I said long time ago, why KZ don't use this anymore for hybrids. They already have their component ready to challenge the next level.
Put that giant 12mm as sub bass, combine it with their planar or BAs or even their MST, with right tuning, this can be a killer set. If they want I can provide my ideas as base blue print and help with tuning also and not necessarily have a collabs with me, I can provide them without any single share pennies.

Back to ZES, they have impactful bass and leaner high mids but need to be modded for better bass and mids response. Sadly we can't do anything about rolled off treble part. Yeah I still can call that as a baby Z1R on budget, similar tonality with ISN H40 on midfi class. Remember though just the glimpse of tonality and bass impact not the whole thing as a package.

Can you please assist me mod my PR2 like you? I find it unusable, too harsh with anything but foam tips. Even then I never use them. I am inexperienced with nodding.

You will need :
1. medium density foam (I bought in Aliexpress in bulk, keyword is tuning foam / tuning cotton. The medium one actually is the "high density" in local store, while the real high density one, is actually marked as "Sony foam" or "imported foam". Just buy medium and high density ones, can be useful for mods in the future.

Don't bother to buy low density one, they are useless and the effects are negligible.

basically just :
1. take off the orginal nylon filter, you can use needle, and uplift the nylon filter gently from the side, don't do it from the middle (it will break your original filter, in case you want to put them back on original state), the residue is aound the side of the filter to just uplift it slowly until you can pinch it.



(yeah I didn't take photo of the PR2 mods, but here the photo from Castor, and basically, it's same concept)


2. Put in the medium density foam, side ways, not following the round shape of the nozzle, so it will still have airflow for the bass


3. Pinch a hole on mesh500 / tanchjim tanya filter, with the tip of the needle, just the tip remember, we just need tiny micro hole for airflow, if you pinch too deep until the body of the needle, the hole will be too big and high mids will be too harsh (best if you have measurement rig)


pinch a hole with paper as base and put the filter on top of the paper, do this before attaching the filter to the nozzle, not after attached on the nozzle.

4. Attach the mesh500 filter with the hole on the nozzle, and thats it! actually I double stacked my Tanya filter in my mods, but I feel the high mids a bit too dampened, since I already like lower pinna gain and feel that too dampened, other people maybe find the high mids too recessed, so try 1 filter first.

Btw, I did mod with my AS24 switch and have incredible results, and I like them so much. And I have KZ PR3 coming (this one have crazy uncontrolled trebles, I will use different mod techniques with rolled cotton instead)

Seems like the tuning switches makes a big diff this time.

it is relatively strange here with the monitor :3 Tuning in ear monitor is the hardest thing and I think I can never reach out a good enough response. With speaker it is just simply to turn bass treble and just hearing. Alway lack one region in iem.

If you want decently tuned planar that doesn't require THAT much of juice to run, this will be it. (PR1 sensitivity at 100db vs PR2 94db)
and as far as i remember, unlike PR2 and its mesh filter inconsistency, PR1Pro have good product track record.

AngelEars have been teasing this IEM for sometime
but surprisingly no news from KZ own front.

Most possibly this is AS16Pro with the new gen bellsing drivers that is in AS24.

Interesting, I was completely unaware of its existence. According to what I can find in the listings, the difference is one of low frequency 22955 BAs being replaced with a
30019 mid-high frequency one which sounds like a weird thing to do as it's already packed with mid and high freq units. Might be some mistakes in the marketing stuff again?

Yeah, its been all over ali apparently but no news from KZ own store

they switch previously 2x 22955 BA with 1x 22955 BAs+ 1x30019...

and apparently uses 3d DLP printed bracket like CCA Trio
