It probably is that. I had a go on a modded wm1z and it did sound better than the original. If it had more power I'd probably like it.

Lacked power , sound was good but a tad dark , too heavy.

Sp1000. Cayin N8 , and 1Z are all very heavy , but only the N8 has two different internal amps , plus the N8 is the most powerful , and the N8 sounds better.

This may be irrelevant, but I am wondering if there any dedicated portable DAC that can beat all the flagship DAPs here. Like the Hugo 2 (?) or others ? Only by sonic performance...

I agree. I compared all 3 and the lpgt and felt the N8 sounded the best. The Sony and LPGT were ducking it out for second in my opinion.
