Khadas Tone Board DAC = WOW!

nice heads up

reading the specs i can't see it offers me anything over and above what the tone 1 delivers for my meagre needs currently

and i am no fan of rgb bling (" RGB LED ring for status indication and feedback. ") - it's an annoying distraction although i appreciate that it is a simple way to notify settings, but it is usually way too bright for my tastes, unfortunately for me

hybrid digital / analogue volume is a good thing - the stoner ud130 utilises this and it is very precise and feels like an old school volume dial but with no pot hiss, and easy selection of just the right loudness

the ud130 also has an led light to signal output, and it's blinding from directly in front, and intrusively bright in a dark room

some nice features for those who need it; essentially the same ess chip, and the added amplification is great for power hungry phones (mine max out at 80ohms with the elears, and the tone drives them effortlessly, so not something i currently need)

size is good, not so sure of the form factor, but at least it has a case :)

Maybe the Tone 2 Pro will be more suitable for those who wanna use balanced connectors for say higher demanding gear. But yeah I'm gonna stick to the KTB first version, not much big value add for those of us who use mostly lower powered stuff.

Same form factor with Tone1 but just with a smaller RCA connector.

We designed the RING with matte finish to ensure the light will be smooth and friendly :)

More specs & info, we will post next week via our newsletter.

Good day!

by form factor i meant the shape; like your cases for the vim stuff, not sure curves and diagonals and "decoration" is what serious users look for

wrt the led : make the lights able to be dimmed via the interface and you will win a lot of friends

one user's "dull" is another user's "blinding"

love your gear for listening though :D

really great thing the khadas, I used it for one year and was great. I prefer a dac with a second usb for power, makes things easier for nowadays computer setups, usb hubs... that stuff, but soundwise, amazing for the price. Also the transparent case, really nice nerd looking device, not so much audiophile boring stuff. Not to plastic fantastic or spacy either. Sold mine already, waiting for V2.

Is the noise floor of TB2 improved over TB1?

you must have hearing like a bat

admittedly i'm a little old and frequencies >14k are diminished significantly, but both through the htpc and phones the output is impressively silent where that's what is being transmitted

it's a bee's dick on objective measurements per amir 🔬

the whole reviews are here :

and here :

if all you need is a dac (single input) then the khadas is the cheaper and essentially equal option, especially as the new firmware will allow you to use an interface to adjust settings - although i didn't like v2.0 as much as i like v1.04 personally... although i will be revisiting that option shortly just to see if it's down to familiarity rather than sound

Thank you for your inputs. How's the connection of the toneboard with linux and android based systems?

Thank you for your inputs. How's the connection of the toneboard with linux and android based systems?

i suggest you research that for yourself - i have no experience there

per https://www.khadas.com/tone1

[1] Android supports only 44.1KHz output due to the Sample Rate Conversion(SRC) resampling implementations.
[2] Will also support other Single Board Computers (SBCs).

Compatible OSesAndroid [1] LibreELEC Linux Distros(Support Volumio)Windows PC Linux PC macOS Raspberry Pi [2]
