Too late now.

(But I shall try to be more tactful in the future.)

No worries....we just don't want Birgir to get upset and stop creating electrostatic amps all together.

Decided after much debate to make the jump and put together a Stax rig about a month ago...all the big pieces arrived today:

SR-009 from PriceJapan
Metrum Pavane
KGSSHV Carbon mini from Birgir.

Needless to say, it was an "epic" mail day.

The audiophile gods detected the disturbance and of course....the balanced interconnects are still in route.

So, some beautiful looking gear sitting in the room (had to put it on the rack behind me to ease the anticipation).

The final touches should arrive here in the next week....and forward we go.

I went with the Carbon mini and compared to the Pavane it is petit!

Stax day one continues next week....

To: Combat Audio, Could you pls give the dimensions (HxWxD) of the Carbon Mini? Thanks in advance.

Outer dimensions (height from floor to top, width from the outer edge of the heatsinks, depth from outer edges of front and end plates) is around 4 x 12.5 x 12.25  (inches). The heat sinks on the sides take about about 3 inches of the width or 1.5 inches on each side and has about a .5 inch clearance on the bottom.

Once I set it up will take some photos :)

Thanks everyone, the interconnects should be here this week and then to the music!

I am interested how hot it gets. The Carbon by it's nature can handle more heat on the gets right, so I am assuming it will get hotter than a KGSSShv?
My KGSShv does get fairly warm as you would expect from dissipating 80W at the heat sinks.I would guess it is 20°C or slightly more above ambient at the heat sinks.

Do you guys (users of KGSShv / KGSS / Carbon) leave it all all day and night? I am tempted to do this in winter as my speaker amp recommends that.
It takes I would say 3/4 hour to warm up before full performance is realised. However the caps in the PS could take longer. It is a subject in itself I guess. The thermal shock and surge of each switch on is probably a negative as compared to leaving it on all the time. I would not do that with tube amps of course.

Any thoughts?

Well and then there is the energy bill ;-)

Did anybody measure the "stand by" power usage of such an amp with no music playing and volume down to zero?

I leave my DAC on for longer periods (but also not all the time), but not any amp.

I personally just think it is not worth the used energy. I bite the bullet and wait for 30-60 minutes for the warmup.. better than wasting energy in such a way.

But just my personal opinion...

Are you sure that the Plinius amp is recommended to stay "on".
The developer and builder of my amp, which is similar to your Plinius, say that the amp should or can be shut off if one does not use it and need no warm up time.
.
Ok, one of the speciality Eckhard Grünsch told me is the power supply he developed for the CLS II amp.
The smooth start procedure execution of the power supply is designed protecting electronic parts.

But on Gryphon Website, they write the same about the the Mephisto amp.

The only machine i keep powered on is the ESOTERIC DAC.
It sound kind of smoother then which could be the result of the better stabilized internal clock, even it´s not the rubidium clock.

By the way, the Metrum Octave sound more harsh than the D-02. Might be different with Pavane or Musette.
They use the newer developed r2r chip set which should be more precise than the parts of an Totaldac.
But as they don´t have a loudness control i would have to add a preamp first. To bad, hope Metrum will change that in future.

No, as a new situation all equipment is at one rig. As i decide to replace my Lyngdorf  AMP/DAC with the GRUENSCH amp and the Esoteric D-02.
It was no problem with just the Headphone set.
Now that i use the same DAC on Stax set and Loudspeaker, it is. The GRUENSCH amp has no Volume control.

It is also a lot easier for testing/switching stuff, having all the gear at one place.

May be a stupid question, but is the KGSSHV Carbon a product that is available "complete" for purchase or is it a DIY project ?   And, If it can be purchased, then...where can I get it ?

Same question for the " T2 " ?

Why no picture of then  on this thread ?
