KG CFA3 headphone amp

with 30v rails that would be 8 watts balanced into 200 ohms.
with the 97db efficiency, that should blow your brains out. and probably set the headphones on fire.

if not you can always build the newest version with 45v rails.

Which amp/version is that? how would it be different than the currently built CFA3? (have one from dukei)

no difference in the circuit. thru-hole transistors replaced with surface mount versions because the thru-hole are discontinued.
split into 2 pieces to reduce cubic inches.

the high voltage version requires a 3U chassis.

Dr. Gilmore is it only a matter of output power or are there other important characteristic of new design? e.g. lower output impedance than original CFA3 design that can suit Susvara better? Thank you!

more output transistors. transistors are higher power dual chip. more voltage. lots more current.
otherwise identical. wonderful for high efficiency horns.

Thank you! New design is more speakers dedicated as I can understand correctly. May be original design limited by output current with Susvara even with 30V rails dual GRLV setup?

original design is about 25 watts into 60 ohms with 30v supplies. if that is not loud enough for you then you have go to higher voltage rails.

:)) Thank you very much! It is more than enough for me, for sure! I was only curious what other advantages (other than more power :) can have your new design.

Appreciate the response - I may be entirely misunderstanding the terminology you listed above (my apologies if that is the case).

The LCD-4 is the 200 Ohm unit with the 97 dB efficiency. The LCD-R has a 2 Ohm impedance with a 103 dB/mW sensitivity.

It is usually used with an accompanying Jotunheim A unit, but several users have been able to get the LCD-R to work on amps such as the WA33/Cavalli Liquid gold/Schiit Ragnarok.

I have no feeling for what constitutes an amp's ability to be able to drive something like the LCD-R (and frankly, this is morbid curiosity).

Would the CFA3 still be able to drive that safely?

some people are using the cfa3 to drive raal headphones, so i would expect it to drive the lcd-r just fine. but i have not tested this.
