I got the impression on here that more people prefer the 990s over the 880s.
At least from all the sigs I've seen, it seems that way.

If I didn't have bass cans, I'm pretty sure the battle would be between the 770 and 990.
I think the 770 sounds better.  (a little)
The 990 seems a bit more comfortable.  (a little)
Comfort becomes increasingly more important over sound as time goes by, I think.

But I do have bass cans.  So the 880 seems a bit better suited for all non-bass crazy music.
While I've had the 880s, I kept missing the bass on my 770s.
And everytime, I got the craving for bass, I'd just put the Sonys on.

So the moment I put the 990s on, it was like... oh wow, the bass has returned!
Now, 4 hours have gone by and the novelty has worn off.
I'm kind of leaning toward returning them, but haven't made up my mind.
Complicating matters, they were really cheap on Amazon.
Gah, I wish the 770 was this cheap (relatively).  I think I'd rather have the 770 back.

Can any 990 owners weigh in as to why they prefer the 990 over the others?
Thoughts are welcome on the specific issue.

I prefer the DT770 and DT880 to the DT990 for many reasons.

I like how the DT770 has smoother treble and the sound is more balanced across the board. Also the DT770 has pretty natural bass and it's sound signature is pretty neutral. Though it does sound a bit closed in.

The DT880 is my fave next to the T1's but I sold the DT880 because I have the T1's. It's redundant to own both IMO. But the DT880 is one of my faves because of it's neutrality, more midrange presence, and texturing of the bass. The soundstage is much more open than the DT770 and has more air to it.

I kept the DT990 because I wanted a "fun" headphone. It has emphasized bass and treble with a slightly thinner sounding midband. They DT990 has the largest soundstage out of the whole DT770-DT990 line. I think it has too much treble IMO, but not in a bad way. It's just the sibilance gets slightly annoying.

Haha, totally right.
And your other reviews were right too.
It's just weird though now that I have firsthand experience.
Still haven't decided on the 990.

Right now, I think the 990 is cheaper than the 770.
If the 770 dropped in price like all these other headphones have been doing,
then I might switch back.
