Kaldas Research RR 1 Conquest ($500 Electrostatic)

Finally I was able to pick up an APM for myself, it's hard finding one here in India officially. The market was mostly filled with grey market scalpers for the last couple of months.

Here are a few Measurements for anyone who wants to use them as a reference.
I by no means have done extensive testing and I haven't done thousands of tests, I don't have the time for that.

The APM was measured exactly at 90.164dB @1KHz and the RR1 was at 90.151dB.
APM was powered by the Violectric V200 going into the APx515 and the RR1 was plugged into the 252S. APM was measured with the NC and all other trick DSP on, RR1 was in full analog mode, obviously. The graphs are uncompensated and unsmoothed, absolutely no filtering was applied to either graphs. The Measurements were done on the G.R.A.S KEMAR 45BB-14. The RR1 used in this test was a relatively older unit (Manufactured in 2018)

Please Note - Ideal seating conditions weren't taken into account here. These were just preliminary measurements for both. The APM %THD ratio continues to stay below 1% throughout the range as high as 115dB thanks to the DSP. Graphs can be made to look nice with ideal seating and smoothing which doesn't work out in the real world hence such preliminary measurements. For anything more detail oriented it's best if you look for the measurements from other reputable sources who do this as an everyday job.

Overall, I really like the APMs but I'd rather use my Bose 700 which is easier to throw around while welding and while I'm working on my old motorcycles and cars.

Hi Aumkar, would you recommend getting the APM as an audiophile headphone and not just for NC or should I wait for Version 2?

Apart from the remarkably smart DSP capping the %THD below 1% regardless of Amplitude and the impressive sub-bass response, I still find the APM to sound like an NC closed, albeit the most impressive implementation yet.

Back to your question regarding substituting it for what we on Head-Fi are used to? I still would be more content with an HD600 on tubes. Although, that's not something most people care about anymore, the industry is changing and IMO, the golden days are over.

Finally got the 353X with the L300 Limited in a combo and the 353X does give a fair bit more headroom as expected.

The RR1 is a surprisingly competent headphone when compared to the L300LTD. Slightly warmer and more musical i daresay.

353X gives more power than 007tA does. I wonder how RR1 sounds on that amp. I had consulted Mr.Aumkar before time I bought my 007tA.
I did not notice about power that time.
007tA can not drive RR1 in case of low spl records.
I never run more than 70%, because avoid distortion, when the track is not best sample of quality

I understand the distortion as I would run into distortion with the 252 but the 353X solves it all. It goes painfully loud before running into distortion.

This might be the best headphone stand I have ever seen. Wow. I would've never imagined that a Xenomorph head collectible would serve as such a good headphone stand.

Congrats on owning this limited edition one! The RR1 perfectly sits on it.
