When to try out some headphones last week. I was almost sure the HD650 would be the pick after reading about them.

But after a good listen to the HD650, K701, SR325 and ultrasone pro 750 I believe.

The HD650 was to bass heavy for my liking and didn't have as wide a soundstage as I was looking for.

K701 was a little bit to much treble and could have had a little more bass impact. loved the separation and imaging.

Sr325 felt like they were in between the hd650 and k701 but felt flat, and not as fun as expected.

the pro 750 felt like a mix of the k701 and HD650, not to my liking.

I used a canamp but I have a X-can v8 at home. Will it make any difference?
The AKGs seems to be closest to what I'm after but still not all the way. Any thoughts?

Beyerdynamic DT880 is supposed to have more bass than K701 and apparently have bit of a less peak at the lower treble/upper mid region as well, while keeping similar balance. Perhaps look into that.

x2. Warmer and fuller than the K701 with better bass. A much better phone (601) imo.

x3 on the K601 (trusting the impressions of others though, not on firsthand experience). And if that's still not enough, using K701 pads on the K601 may push the headphone just a little bit further in that direction too.

DT880 doesn't have more bass or less treble to my ears, but many people report they hear the otherwise.

K601s have a little more bass volume and roll off in high earlier than K701, but at the same time, it isn't as revealing, transparent, have a more restrained soundstage than K701 and clearly a step down from K701.

I'd suggest HD600s, which should be more to OP's liking and have many strengths of K701.

Don't bother at all.

I disagree. I find the K701 to sound much more clinical and boring. The K601s don't sacrifice (much) in the way of being analytical, yet still offer a more fun, smoother sound with better bass. I think the soundstage of the two phones are so similar it's pointless to compare, but the K701 might have a slight advantage in depth (not sure, might have to borrow my friend's again).

Please report back, the lost of detail and the small size of soundstage on K601 is more than noticeable.

Akg k601 are noticeable less detailed, have smaller soundstage, lack in depth , warmer-laid back sound but very, very fun to listen and IMO good compliment to k702.

Try a decent tube amp to tube roll those traits in. They don't change the 701 into a different headphone but you can find tubes that extend the bass and add a bit more slam. Burn in will tame the highs but won't change the sonic presentation. There are those who don't like the 701s because of the artificial mid to high presentation. If you're ok with the sound but think them harsh, they do smooth with use.

I find the "detail" and "soundstage" somewhat artificial thanks to the exaggerated treble on the K701. Whenever it gets rolled off the sound (and impressions) are bound to change.

Saying that x4 on the K601

Equinox cable gave my 702's exactly what you are describing. The difference was not subtle.
