You are quite well served in terms of amplification, then.

My perception of the issue nowaday is this: the K1000s are fantastic on a number of aspects, but not on others. To me, its tonal balance is significantly tilted towards the midrange. So it takes a lot of time and research to find an amplifier and source that are capable of minimizing its downsides and make you fully appreciate what it does well.

So while your amplifiers are very very good, they just might not be exactly what the AKGs demand. But well... I guess I should leave that to more experienced people :)

I think the trick is to find an amplifier which is very smooth. I use a Zanden 7000 300B and its fantasticly detailed but also very smooth, so it gives me little to no fatigue at all even at higher volumes.

Thinking of downsizing a little. Do you know / have heard any integrated (dac, amp) solutions that drive K1000 well? It all sparked when I spotted a Peachtree Audio Nova on sale, but it isn't a good companion with the K1000, I undestood.

On the other hand, First Watts are fairly cheap and well available... :xf_eek:

Never tried myself, but seems to work well together, especially with NOS EL84 Mullards

But an real downgrade, at least in my mind, would be TrendsAudio TA 10.1 fully modded or TA10.2 new model, fine little amp that have surprised many out there.

Thanks but I really could use a one-box solution. Otherwise I'll stick with the current set until I have buffer for the F1/F2. The Electrocompaniet is taking some space so that counts as well.

Is the opinion that the K1000 is not a good companion for the Peachtree based on driving it out of the headphone port, or the speaker taps? Because I think that these experiences would be quite different.

Sherwood owned the set once (Googled and got cool pics!) but I tried pm'ing him to no avail. I have to presume he used the speaker outs as intended.

New owner here. Love these gems.

Bass-heavy, serial #4251. Running them off my Pioneer integrated (A-447) and Dynahi.
